Re: Spring 2014 Streaming Announcements - JoJo/Mushishi 2 on

Had a look at the Soul Eater NOT promo. Looks like a hyper-moe-fied Soul Eater.

Not enthused. Actually, this season so far, I've got two certs to watch, which compared to last season is utterly naff, when I had something like 12!

Having read the manga, it pretty much is. The series focuses on a different set of students at the DWMA who are a part of the "NOT" (Normally Overcome Target) classes which are more about teaching students to control their abilities so that they can live an ordinary life. The end of the second volume did imply some sort of Soul Eater-esque story is coming down the line, but we'll have to see what happens there.

The translated name for this sounds worse than Chuu2 REN!'s one. Do I shoot Sentai or the Licensor?

Also, is it just me or does this upcoming season look pretty dull compared to the last few? The aforementioned show is the only show which has caught my attention this season, but even then I'm not overly excited to watch it. Nothing else seems to be interesting at all (Except Jojo Part 3, but I haven't seen past episode 5 of Jojo.)

It definitely is. Nothing really jumps out to me right away, so I'll have to try out a few things and see if there are any hidden gems.

Ahh great, here we go again! Can Animax just go and disappear please as i rather see a "proper" simulcast service named CrunchyRoll providing the anime i want to see...namely Soul Eater Not and Kawaisou

Well, you see. There's this superior service called the Internet...

What's up with Mahouka?
When a series specifically excludes UK rights, that means someone else has the UK specific rights. But Wakanim claimed that they weren't doing simulcasts this season (or rather, Andrew claimed that), and animax have already made their announcements. And the series airs today.

...or the licensor isn't selling the rights? We don't always get all shows, usually the odd Funimation shows we miss out on.

When has there been anything that specifically excludes the UK (as in Europe excluding the UK or World excluding the UK) when the license hasn't been taken by someone else?

I don't think it's ever happened.

I'm going to guess Funimation have secretly picked up the rights to the titles that Crunchyroll was unable to get for their service for the UK, for instance Daimidaler and Selector Infected WIXOSS. Therefore the home release will be AB|124 if likely. Just my theory though.

Secretly? They've already announced both of those titles, and did before CR.

Re: Spring 2014 Streaming - Fairy Tail (2014) on CR!

NormanicGrav means Funimation could have the UK rights. They've occasionally taken them in the past, I believe (hence allowing us to watch a select handful of titles on their YouTube channel, though without things like their promotional videos and with a great deal of inconsistency).

I guess there's always the potential that a licensor thinks someone is going to take the UK rights and sells the US/global English-speaking rights without us, then the licensee pulls out or picks something else and the title ends up in limbo. Which is stupid, but when we're a tiny market with so many distinct exclusive streaming services it's no wonder people get confused.

Re: Spring 2014 Streaming - Fairy Tail (2014) on CR!

If funimation had the rights to Mahouka then it wouldn't be available to the US on CR either. In every case that CR and Funimation have both had streaming rights to a title in the US, we got the series in the UK as well.

Re: Spring 2014 Streaming - Fairy Tail (2014) on CR!

I'm not so sure. There haven't been very many cases of them sharing rights, and it could easily just be a contractual blip where they couldn't get exclusivity because the rights holder didn't want to grant it. Though that doesn't really explain why Funi would get UK rights and Crunchyroll wouldn't.

At this point it seems really unlikely we're getting Mahouka or Daimidaler this season, for some stupid reason which hurts fans and (ultimately) copyright holders alike.

I wish all of the local licensors would be forced to let Crunchyroll stream everything too instead of getting exclusivity so we could avoid this kind of thing in future.

Re: Spring 2014 Streaming - Fairy Tail (2014) on CR!

To be honest, though, the real proof that Funimation don't have Mahouka is:
a) That it is an Aniplex title
b) That Aniplex announced the sites it would air in the US - which doesn't mention Funimation anywhere.

I'm fine with companies having exclusive rights to a series in a certain region - so long as they actually make the content available in all the regions they have the rights to.

Anyway, new crunchyroll series available in the UK (which of course is yet another series I'm not remotely interested in):

Edit: another new CR title, also in the UK:
