However, because the "Sky platform isn't allowing any new channels", Animax is most likely to debut as a video-on-demand station on "'a major cable operator' before the end of the year". Anime UK News will keep you posted on developments with Animax as and when they happen.

Also, we recently received word that RaptureTV, which aired both Fullmetal Alchemist and Wolf's Rain back in 2005, is still alive and looking to regain it's former glory - pending an appeal against Ofcom over their dispute with BSkyB. Of course, there is no guarentee that RaptureTV would air anime if it returns, however, if you enjoyed watching the channel, it's worth noting that their official website and forums are still going strong.

Time flies, eh? What the hell happened to 2006?!

2006 was an extremely odd year. For me personally it was a very... bad? year, and it seems to be the same for a lot of other things (with the anime industry (bankrupcy of Musicland (I think in 2006), higher license prices etc).

I mean, what the hell!? It's just hit November of 2007 o_O, where's this year gone!?

shame it's on subscribe channel, guess i'll have to miss this one out

no loss, only interested in inuyasha anyway
It is not a subscription channel but video-on-demand. Simply put if they are showing something you want to watch then you will be able to "rent" that episode/block of episodes/movie as you wish.

VOD, or no it's still got to come out of somebody's box and if it ain't Sky's, I ain't interested. I'll just rent what they are showing from Amazon instead if I'm that bothered.

absolutely gutted its going to be video on demand channel.
Wish it was just a regular channel on sky, anyone know why 'the Sky platform isn't allowing any new channels'.
Completley lost interest in Animax now :(
I have nooooo desire to bother with a VoD channel.
Guess Anime Central will have to do, that and youtube.

The Sky EPG is approaching (or has reached) its maximum bandwidth/size and cannot physically take more load than it currently has.

How does a SKY VoD channel actually work? Is the channel still listed because the Pay Per View movie channels are listed (can't remember the name of them).

I don't think this will be going to Sky at all. The only form of VoD available on Sky (to my knowledge at least, not having Sky and all) involves set showing times and a temporary subscription to see the next showing. This would probably be available as an on-demand movie on whatever channel that is viewed upon. Virgin Media are the only TV company to offer "proper" on demand rental, giving access to a particular series/block of episodes/ movies for a set period of time. I think Sky have opted for an internet based on-demand service to achieve a similar level of access. This probably entails DRM restrictions like many other similar services.

They'd be losing a large percentage of their potential viewers if they don't release the channel on Sky though - 16 million according to this site.
The whole problem is that they do not have a choice in the matter. Since Sky have closed down new applications for numbers on the EPG then it would require them [Animax] to negotiate with any number of other channels that are currently on the EPG to buy that off them. This could take any length of time so if they wish to get off the ground in short order and to any conceivable timescale then their only option is to go the direction they are going. It could very well be available on satellite but would require people to search for the channel rather than having the convenience of the EPG to work with.

Wow, i had no idea.
Never stopped to think that it had limits lol.
Get rid of the crappy specialist channels lol.

Any plans from sky to upgrade it so it can take more or will that involve us paying out for a new set top box?
