I don't think this will be going to Sky at all.

They'd be losing a large percentage of their potential viewers if they don't release the channel on Sky though - 16 million according to this site.
The whole problem is that they do not have a choice in the matter. Since Sky have closed down new applications for numbers on the EPG then it would require them [Animax] to negotiate with any number of other channels that are currently on the EPG to buy that off them. This could take any length of time so if they wish to get off the ground in short order and to any conceivable timescale then their only option is to go the direction they are going. It could very well be available on satellite but would require people to search for the channel rather than having the convenience of the EPG to work with.

There's still space on the Sky platform as far as I am aware it's a software problem with the older digital boxes.

Sky+ and Sky HD boxes should be ok to receive new channels. I just think Sky are unwilling to split non HD channels between those with basic Sky digital and those with Sky's PVR services.
