Skyrim

Guh, ended up playing this waaaaaay too much so now I only just have time to start iM@S2 before I go to bed. ;_;

Put about nine hours in today and can't decide if I loved it so much I want to play loads more, or if I loved it so much that I wish there wasn't quite as much too it and I could more easily see the extent of what the game has to offer. Just the thought of how far in so many people already are with completely different gameplay experiences reminds me why I don't gravitate to this genre so much.

As for the actual game, playing a sexy High Elf as a black mage, things just die once you have the dual casting destruction perk, not really had any problems (except wanting to be able to carry more stuff, maybe). Just off to talk to the Greybeards now, but that looks far away so I might do one or two other side quests first.

And how in the hell I'm supposed to have the time to read all the books, I don't know. Is there an online repository of them at all?

But it is good to see that you can still walk on the sheer sides of mountains.
Yup, this is a convenience that I think they need to keep on including, would make the game way less fun if you couldn't crazily trek across some parts of it like Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible II.

u don't find yourself running out of mana?

i'm now arch mage of the college :D

Oblivion is currently £5 for the Deluxe edition on Steam. Worth it for the mods, surely?

Either glitched forever in his death throes or praying to the morning god.

Made me lol, Saluting the stars even in death.

He was halfway up a mountain you say? would that make him.... rock hard?

thank you, it was sh*t but i'll be here all week.

50 extra starting magicka for High Elves, another 30 from my hood that I'm wearing, 30 from level ups, and 50% faster magicka regen. Means I am quite borderline on having enough health at times, but I can manage my magic fairly well (killing Giants has been the only thing that was slightly laborious, first Dragon fight was fine). Only have to give regular enemies a couple of quick blasts with a little gap in-between to allow the full effect of the magic to play out.

Can't wait to get to the college though, I'm doing a few things for the Companions atm since they come up first, but I realllllly want to do the mage quests. :)

I've decided that i'm buying this, all the videos and talk have convinced me that i'm missing out on some really good gaming. Being that i'm playing a MMORPG for weeks now has really helped get me back into the RPG feeling, I do have a few questions for those already playing;

When you fight a monster does it tell you what level is is? and what level you are,

Do you get item drops from monsters like normal RPGs?

Are there different varients of monster? In Flyff for example for each monster there's a sub class, normal, captain and then one giant boss version.

Is there an assassins guild to joing on this?

Is there a sprint button.... incase i'm caught halfway up a mountain without any cover and a dragon comes after me.

Can you weild a Axe and a shield or is an axe a 2 handed weapon?

This is all :p Buying it tomorrow.

No, but you should know your own level anyway.

Of course.

To an extent, for some. "Novice Blackmage", "Apprentice Blackmage", "Adept Blackmage". Variants on some cave-dwellers too. (Essentially; 'Normal' and 'Angry')

Yes.

You can sprint, yes. Although I doubt the Dragon problem you foresee will be an issue.

There are one handed axes, yes. You can also wield two at once.

So its just a case of taking a risk... if you get your ass handed to you, do you respawn at the last town or are there respawn points within dungeons and open spaces? I'd rather not have to go through a cave about 5 times because i keep dying lol

Also, i'm 90% certain, but just to confirm.... when you press the button to attack; you have full control over it.

What i'm trying to say is, in some rpg's like dragon age you just have to select the monster and press attack and your character stands there hacking away on his own. I'd prefer to time my hits exactly, pretty sure that is how it works on this but just making sure.

Does armour have extra attributes? like +50 attack or chance to stun increases? Buffing characters stats and things is partly the reason i like RPG's :p

Lastly, when your upgrading your character; do you gain skill points for just your attacks (like magic attacks and things) or can you spent points on increasing your damage per hit or stamina, or health - or is the only way to increase your health to upgrade armour?

Anyway, buying it tomorrow so should be good :) thanks for the help.

Tachi, your questions all seem to be "does this feature standard, basic elements of the genre" so assume yes until you have something a bit more niche to ask.

Is everyone elses save getting worryingly larger each time? Is there a 'cap' on the size a save can get to? All the auto-saves are friggin' huge too, and this is just eating up my HDD...

Are you playing on PS3? I didn't really read much about it, but it does seem to be an issue.

Yeah, PS3. Maybe wrong of me, I assumed the save would naturally 'take up more space than it needs' so it can't get to the point that my HDD fills up and I'm unable to save? But, every night I play it it's going up quite a bit, and I've not really played it that much... It's seriously worrying, to the point I'm not playing it because I hear there could be a patch? But, the patch will only resolve huge saves lagging...

I play PC currently on save 237 I think and its taking up 0.99GB, not sure how different it is on PS3.

Currently playing a Mage but want to start again as something else, as its not as fun without making your own spells.
Any recommendations; thinking either a 2 handed orc, 1 hand shield something or a ranger.

Hmm, not sure then, Shira. Hopefully there is some info out there somewhere. :-/

Taylor: If I play another character I would probably go down some some of Thiefy road that leads to me maxing out my sneaking and lockpicking, every time I come across a lock I can't pick I get too vexed.

As of today I started chucking perks into Sneak, it's just so much fun <3

Generally speaking, are you guys going for Smithing or Enchanting? Or both? Smithing I hear is most useful, but the idea of fortifying my armour to have Sneak bonuses is so tempting <3 That, or Magicka bonuses.

(Dark Elf Spellsword here, if I didn't mention earlier)

I only just started looking into enchanting, will be going down that route this time, and alchemy if I play my Thief character at some stage. Smithing just sounds... dull.

Yer decided to make a Wood Elf Hunter / Thief, its pretty fun so far.

Smithing is boring. Its so easy to level; though the rewards are pretty good with the light armor dragon scale stuff.

Alchemy is going to be a definite for my sneaking character, dropping poisons into peoples pockets just sounds too good to miss :p

My Dark Elf is running thin with the perks. I've decided, although it may be a bit harder; i'm gonna do what's fun. I don't like the idea of specializing too much, so I have some 'spare' perks from Destruction, One Handed and Light Armour to spend elsewhere. They're going into Sneak, Illusion and Conjuration/Archery. I've got a respectable Mana pool, so Conjuration will work nicely for bound bows, Archery to get use from them. Other than that, I just love sneak-characters, so I'm looking forward to take advantage of Sneak!

Thankfully the Dark Brotherhood's hood gives s +20% to bow damage too; so hopefully easier to train now! Although, I just died taking on the Mistwalker Bandits :/

Thankfully, the Dark Elf's wide skill bonuses have worked out well for this character; just Archery needs a little more love than most to get up to scratch.

Oh and the bound sword looks awesome.

Alchemy is always an awesome choice, so much you can make that can give you the upper hand!

I probably won't be getting Skyrim at the moment, waiting till after christmas as I should get some money then
