Tch, no wonder I missed them. I don't sit up that late because of work, and when I do I'd rather not be sat in front of the old goggle box.

To me, that seems unlikely. Anime is in such low demand in the uk, no show would risk hosting anime series, maybe the odd movie every now-and-again, but a anime series would mean having to lay out all the episodes, and there would be a lot of repeats and hardly any new episodes. Even if they did find a spot, it would just get rejected and thrown back. Why would the same of what happened to anime central not happen to this?

I don't think anime will ever hit big on tv. Why would it? There are plenty of cheap boxsets out there, which fans will happily buy, instead of having to watch dozens of repeats on tv and having to wait ages for a new episode. There are plenty of anime's you can watch/download online, without the hassles and for free.

The only anime I could ever see coming back on tv would be the Akira movie, and possibly ghost in the shell movies. Why? Because they are classics; People will remember them and even those who don't, would see adverts on tv and most people would watch it just to see what its like.

As for anime central, that show was too much like hard work to watch. Repeats, late night shows, not the greatest dubs, etc. So, why bother? I'm pretty sure I, like most people would rather buy a dvd, have the choice of when I want to see it, and what I want to see. And, even have the decision too have dubs, subtitles, whatever. Plus, there's nothing better that looks better on your shelf than a nice collection of art boxes! ;D

Too true, beats a hard disc full of downloads any day ;)

BUT.... still doesn't answer why anime has made it in so many other European countries but not here.,,,

Quite a few repeats but my word, thats a LOT of series they are showing. I'd never go to work if we had that on TV here!
 
TThe reason is probably likely that they have more respect for animation as a medium that can provide entertainment to a wide variety of age groups rather than just children. The UK can't really seem to grasp that at all.
 
True, which is a shame. So we suffer with the drivel from the BBCs period drama dept, ITV/C4s latest reality/conflict TV and the dross of the US TV industry. Yay! Happy days ;)

I'm glad my unwatched anime DVD pile is about 4ft high.
 
Back home (Brazil) - they do dubs on everything. Good, if you consider a lot of the population there are literally illiterates...
It's also said that Brazil is the country with the biggest japanese descents population in the world. So, maybe that would explain why manga is so strong there. Anime on free TV is something common. I grew up witht weird old animes such as princess knight, Kimba, speed racer, zillion, zodiac knights ..... All with dubs.

I can not say that I am suprised in any way/shape/form.

They had Zero transparancy with thier viewers and realy that was the sword on which they impaled themselves on.

It's quite clear that no one can properly schedule anime in the uk that is above the calbier of a 4kids show without somehow makeing a total pigs ear of it.
 
OK, I've been looking through the animax schedules for various countries, they show 1 new ep per day, the BIG bugbear some of you had with AC. And they show dubs.

I'm confused.

I've just had a look at the Animax schedule for Hungary. They do have a new episode per day for the likes of Digimon, but not for shows such as Bleach and Death Note.
 
No, but they do show 2 eps of bleach tonight and 2 eps of deathnote tomorrow. And then repeat them every other day for a week. There are a lot of repeats in their schedule.
 
So they have 2 new episodes of things like Bleach and Death Note per week, and like you say, they repeat them every other day during the rest of the week. That, to me, is far superior scheduling than a new episode per night.

Like there arn't any repeats in Popgirl, Kix or Anime Centrals schedule. :p
 
I'm not really bother by repetition of eps, but to have the same two series repeated over several weeks is simply the same as asking me to stop watching it altogether.

Ok, you repeat death note and bleach everyday for a week. Always in the same time slot? Will it allow me to watch it if I miss? The three times are all the repetition they will do for, let's say a year or longer? Or they will repeat it three times a week and then 3 months later they will repeat the same eps for another week?

If they allow enough time between repetitions and if they change time slots the repetition might not bother so much... I believe there are many ways to keep things interesting even if you don't have all the shows in the universe to run....
 
I think the whole weekly basis and serial effects of anime, People don't care for as much in Japan, Its a common occurrence for their cartoons (and Doramas) to do that. Especially with shows that air all year round, because of flashbacks and the like. Although, Saying that, I probably has some effect because its no mistake that the most popular shows definately don't have a on-going story.

Most seem to read the manga form, for a lot of things.
