PS3 and 360

As a college programmer I would love to work on the PS3 as the CELL processor has quite a few nifty things which will make the life of the console last quite a while as there is still plenty the PS3 has to show.

Having a purely external HDD over building in some storage and then offering space for more was a dumb decision by MS...the original XBox had it and used it to cache game data, and basically just ensure everything went smoothly....even if your DVD drive went a bit tits up the console could usually get by simply because of the amount of stuff it could cache.

Now we've got this bizarre system where because a developer can't rely on there being a hard drive you can't cache on the fly which really did cause problems for Rockstar during GTA4. Anyway, enough moaning.

Despite this I'd still have to say my 360 is my pride and joy... it allows me to play all three parts of the Halo trilogy, PGR, Forza...

Admittedly I'm probably not the best person to ask these days....my games collection shows I've become MS' whore recently: http://www.360voice.com/blog-games-own.asp?tag=mrchom

I have a Wii and 360. A PS3 would be nice, but I've not seen enough games that interest me (and by me, I mean my opinion which is not me saying my opinion is fact or that the PS3 sucks, Mr. A Certain Someone That Always Calls Me Anti-Sony And A Fanboy For Not Liking Most Of The PS3's Games), and I can't afford one right now anyway.

Except it's a bitch to code for apparently, so the full potential won't be seen for a looooooooooooooooooooong time.

I have all three, currently, but I don't bother with the PS3, really, I want to get Drake's Fortune and MGS4, but I have too many other games to complete first. =|

right i'll now be able to decide myself which is better, as i have all 3 consoles :D

Its a nice world we live in sometimes; eh??

nah just proves u can buy anything if u don't waste money drinking :p

Playing videogames isn't exactly a gold mining investment either. :D

Buddy of mine has all three, and I honestly don't see how you can possibly have time to play all of them. Hell, he's on the 360 80-90% of the time.

Not even the unemployed boast that much gaming time.

True and i'm only a PS3 away from all three as well...but i swear is strictly business being a game programer and all :p
Hey, you're a game programmer? How do I get into this world?

And I also agree about drinking... I've seem some people spending 100's of quids drinking and them bitching on how it's difficult to make ends meet... it's sad :p

no and no, although i do think certain games will work, as the games are region locked but the console isn't

as for backward compatible

only if you manage to find an original 40gb hd console

Hey retro - as for backward copatibility only if you get the older models. All brand new ones do not have it anymore.

As for NTSC games, PS3 are region locked for BD that's for sure. I've heard a lot of people saying that although the games are locked, the hardware is not yet. I've confirmed with my games that they are marked as "2".

Urgh, both Ryo and black are wrong.

The ONLY ps3 that has backward compatability is the 60gb they usually buy second hand (you can't buy new anymore-discontinued series)

The 80gb is the SAME specs as the 40gb series....exactly the same...minus the extra 40gb you get from buying the 80gb series....40 and 80gb series....cost the SAME!

You see i knew it was one of the models i just couldn't remember which one came out alongside the 40 GB one at the very beginning :p and i couldn't be bothered to look it up like i normally do as i still have the PS2 to play PS2 games on

Just to be confusing I have a fully hardware backwards compatible PS3 :)

It's a 20GB JP model with no wireless connectivity or card slots. It's also 120GB now since I swapped out the disk...

All PS3 games so far are region free. PS2/PS1 games are locked though, which is why I bought the JP model. Almost all my old games are imports!
