Otaku Question

I love how frequently jokes here go wrong, and subsequently end up even funnier than they were in the first place. Though it strangely brought shotacon into the thread, almost guaranteeing that it will go down in flames in short order.

Conversely are fudanshi still otaku?

I don't see why they wouldn't be, if they had the required traits for whatever arbitrary definition is being used today. Unless there's some unique exclusion zone around particular hobbies for no reason, which I've never heard of.

Only if someone tells Vashdaman :p

Frankly, I'm disgusted!!! The whole anime industry is filth and come JUDGEMENT day you'll be sorry......

Nah I'm just joking, honestly since I've joined here I think I've been exposed to too much and thus become too jaded with anime fandom already (well, if all this stuff is true anyway). You know things have got bad when that kind of stuff only induces me into a mild- half expected it- kind of shock. I just don't have it in me to summon the righteous rage anymore (well, I probably still could if you caught me on a good day...) but honestly, I don't understand, why is it specifically the anime community that attracts such seedy people...You don't get this kind of thing with video gamers, or Marvel fans or Dr. Who nuts... well at least not openly....

Can't we talk about good anime fans instead, the kind that go out and save kittens from trees and stop knife wielding maniacs, and who write poetry about peace and the unity of the human race. Yeah just anything other than another weird word that once googled will cause me to feel even more disappointed with mankind and specifically anime fans........or else soon I'll end up like Ayase and start preparing the fallout shelter.

Wait a second, the video game community is jam packed full of terrible people as well!

I'm not saying we're angels, because we're not, but as bad as the bickering gets around here nobody feels the need (that I have noticed) to start teabagging one another and doing other unpleasant things. The things I have heard on voice chat on Steam at times make my ears burn (and I hear Live is even rowdier). I've also encountered plenty of awful human beings who like Dr Who, and jerks who enjoy Star Wars, and bullies who enjoy a dash of Glee after work. And let's not get started on the stereotypical football hooligans.

The internet cuts away all of the pleasantries of real life discourse, so you just see the dark cores of people who would seem perfectly sensible in person.

 Video gamers do this!?

I'm not actually talking about this place at all. In fact I've never even met any of these seedy people either online or in the flesh, I've only heard people here talk about them. But come on, you have to admit that if they exist in large enough numbers to be considered a sub-group of anime fandom, women who enjoy manga that feature the sexual romps of pre pubescent boys(this is according to wiki)...well yeah, that is in another league to nerds who swear alot online (not that I'm defending those little bastards of course).Obviously you'll get shady people like this in any large community but they don't usually have a defined status or special word for them (presumably because there are enough of them to justify the existence of that word?)

Anyway I don't know, I didn't really want to get caught up on it and bring this thread down in flames.

I think the internet also increases this dark energy if their not careful...but I've got some pretty "out there" opinions on the net..so I'll stop here..

You mean their true natures under the facade they project in public so as not to be ostracised from the community? I prefer people to be honest about their nasty thoughts than to be pleasant liars any day, because let's face it, under that facade everyone's pretty horrible. If human beings could see each other's thoughts, I'm pretty confident everyone would hate each other.

Mm, I much prefer it to standard social interaction; makes things a lot simpler to deal with! It seems that more extraverted types prefer the 'real' world though. I tend to only keep the company of relatively straightforward people IRL, because agreeable people drive me crazy. It's a lot easier to see through them and then (as politely as possible) completely ignore them online ^^;

Well be grateful you don't live in Japan then.

@Sparrowsabre7

yeah but vampire knights is funny, dramatic and beautiful animation

@Paradox295 i used to watch buffy and she was awesome. but today you have supernatural, vampire daisies, teen wolf, ect its all for the girls all you get is a bunch of good looking guys running around saying im i love with her or two brothers saying were here to kill demons all these shows are recommended for girls. these sort of shows are eye candy for the female audience
my two sister and mom and nan loves watching them while the boys in our family hates watching them
at least buffy had the moves and she was bad ass.

its not that i dont like vampire and wearwolf and demons stuff i like horror movies with them in draculas and such is awesome.

Hey! i take offense to that since i love supernatural and while it does has some stuff fo da ladies the strong story and humour more than make up for it.

Other than that i would consider myself an animation otaku not just an anime one but more in terms of the animation side as me and several others online follow and wade through 100s of episodes of many shows making video's that highlight the work of individual animator who work on the anime we all love. 8)

An example of one i made is this:

And an example of the work of my favorite animator would be this (the video has a few spoilers for FMA Brotherhood):

I know what you're getting at, but given the amount of human interaction I get I doubt it would make much of a difference where I lived. Checkout cashiers are pretty much the same everywhere.

Ah, come on Ayase, your seriously gonna make me cry if you keep this up....

Anyway, with white stallion you've got now, the world is yours for the taking!!!

I feel like I've missed out on a rather interesting discussion by disappearing for the last few days.

It feels a bit like coming back to your goldfish bowl and not finding fish, but a rather strange, alluring multicoloured vortex that at once you find intriguing, but you'll probably never work out. :p

You insult TV by saying it's all "terrible and boring", but if someone said the same thing about anime, you'd flip your **** and say they're chavs and haters.

Also, I'll agree with Reality TV and Soaps sucking.. but Vampires.. not so much. Buffy's friggen awesome ;D

Judging from everything Ayase has posted on this forum, I don't think he'd "flip your [his] ****" at all.

I'm in agreement with him; whatever brings you enjoyment, and takes up a fair wedge of time is a big part of you, and why should that be something to be ashamed of? Based on your twitter you watch a lot of American TV shows, you [obviously] watch anime, and spend a lot of time on the internet. How is that "better" than someone who just does the latter two? Some people may just watch anime and spend a lot of time online - but that's essentially the same as you, isn't it? Lot's of "watching a screen" and then talking about it online.

There's nothing wrong with this, and i'm not trying to imply there is. But I think your comment to Ian Wolf was a touch harsh, that's all.

Sorry to referencing the first page here, i'm clearly late to this thread, lol.

That was to animefreak, not ayase.

I'm not saying it's "better", I'm talking about the types of people who won't watch anything unless it's anime.. which is closed-minded, to be honest.

This is why I use self check-outs.
