Ofcom grants Turner 'Adult Swim' licence

I get a feeling this will still be devoid of anime (I can still be surprised though) but it will be nice to me since I missed a chance to watch the last few seasons of Robot Chicken when it was airing on FX (although i loved the irony of that and family guy sharing a channel with all the jokes they poke at each other)

This news make me happeh :D

Going to be a weird ass schedule. I wonder if it'll show even more Family Guy. I kinda hope they do since that show is a way to get into the mainstream public consciousness fo' sure. Futurama, too. I bet rights are too complicated to get all the repeat stuff?

Gimme Home Movies then.

I doubt they would get Family Guy, but they might get Futurama since Sky seem to be clearing out their old shows (eg Malcolm in the Middle).

And, Home Movies == Yes freaking please :D

Also, the AS twitter guy seems to think this is just a renewal of their mobile license. I doubt this because..
1) It's listed in Television services
2) It's listed as a new licence
3) Surely if it was just a mobile license, DS would have made this mistake so many times before?

Ofcom has awarded Turner Broadcasting Systems Europe…
Turner, you say?

"Billionaire Ted promised me anime, brother…"

Oh, great...

New broadcast regulation requires a license for linear services on any platform, and this new Ofcom license relates to our existing mobile TV services on Sky Mobile and Orange , rather than any new broadcast channel. The Adult Swim mobile channel is comprised of a 60 minute content block, which is refreshed weekly, and showcases a range of some the best Adult Swim content to watch on the go.

Ughr, I know, it sucks :(

EDIT: Waaaait, I'm going back to 'Turners keeping it secret'. If they needed to license that mobile channel, why didn't these get licensed aswell? http://www1.sky.com/mobiletv/docs/ents.html

EDIT Again:
Tim and Eric can be currently seen on 4Music.

Future TV airings of adult swim shows will be announced on the website and via our facebook page, so you should check back there for future information
Uhh, no it cant. And the facebook/twitter guy is just as oblivious as we are.
Seriously, they're being quite secretive. As much as I don't wanna keep my hopes up, I think they're trying to keep it quiet.

Until then, screw TV, I'm gonna go do something else to waste time for a while

The whole mobile thing is bulls**t in my opinion, as far as I know TCLS form only deals with television/radio in a linear form and excludes on demand and mobile television which is something else entirely. Turner were granted a NEW license and it was not renewed, it was granted the same time as Chellomedia were granted with their CBS HD channels.

I for one think there is more to this story than meets the eye.

CBS HD? Seriously? They show nothing good other than ST, but seeing the remasters in HD will be cool. They should try for Craig Ferguson again now.

I'm in the middle between 'Complete crap' and 'they're telling the truth'

Reasons why it's a lie:
1) It's a new television license and not renew
2) No other Mobile channels have ofcom licenses

Reasons it's the truth:
1) They have no reasons to lie about it

The CBS channels seem to be all the rage on DS, mainly in the freesat sections

Because they have nothing else

They did lie to me about the deal they had with FX.

Even worse FX were showing ads and they flat out denied it to me.

What did they say, because I have definately seen Adult Swim adverts on FX.
Mainly stuff for RCSW3, so this was a few months after they finished showing AS stuff on FX.

Also, I think I have sussed it! They have the Ofcom license, but they might not have the channel space on sky yet, so they might not be allowed to announce the launch and stuff

EDIT: Okay, seriously, is the AS Twitter guy a perv or something. Quit tweeting about SuicideGirls

That would be my logic as well.

They denied that they had a deal in place with FX and said it was an advertising deal they had with them.

Another question is - if the Venture Bros and Robot Chicken were mostly successful with FX why did they pull them off the air? Are they keeping it for something else?

This seems to be suspiciously missing a UK tv deal - http://www.tnt.tv/series/fallingskies/

Unusual because shows like this are often snapped up when in pre-production with UK broadcasters.
I don't think it would work for AS, IMHO. Plus there are alot of network shows without a UK TV deal

I think it would to be honest, what they've got is too thin to launch a stand alone channel, if they are going for the young adult demograph that show fits neatly in there.

If this show doesn't get a TV deal in the UK soon, I really think this makes an adult swim UK channel more likely.
