Region B is Europe, Australasia and Africa. I'd be concerned if your discs weren't region B (unless they were DVDs).
I think the point was that they're marked as Region B only but are actually also Region A compatible (at least), which makes sense if they're the same as the NISA version and would have been expected. I'm assuming that anyway, I haven't seen the actual set myself or anything.

Isn't Sword Art Online on Crunchyroll? Could always watch it there then decide. I think some/all of it might be on Netflix too.

Alas, I couldn't even if I wanted to. Internet performance in my region has been so bad ALL YEAR that it seemingly takes a week just to log into my email.

(That was part 23 inthe irregular series 'Reasons Why Streaming Isn't A Perfect Solution'. Tune in next week for more, as well as HdE's famous tuna bake recipe!)

Nothing for me this week.

I was thinking about getting the fancy Lull set later in the year, but when I look at everything I'm planning to buy up to the new year I don't see how I can fit it in. Looks like I'll be waiting for the standard edition BD then.

I might try Noragami at some point, won't be any time soon though.

Gutted, Amazon tried to deliver Lull this afternoon but we were out. Now coming tomorrow.

SAO also on the way, and will pick up Noragami. No interest in Bleach.

That's exactly right. I was only happy to pay so much because I thought they were the same as the US version; and as it turns out, they were after all.

It's possible for the disc to be exactly the same and have different region locking. Lionsgate's discs are exactly the same in the US, CA and UK but are programmed differently, consequently the UK discs are B locked and US discs are A locked.

Yes, that's Jerome's definition of 'exactly the same' too, but mine is a bit more specific :)

The state of its region locking directly affects what I am prepared to pay for any given title, as it affects how convenient it is for me to play it back.

Well, in Lionsgate's case it's an accurate comment. The data contents of the disc is exactly the same, they don't even remove the Alliance Films logo (intended for use in Canada), they just change the start-up order and region coding. I can't talk about Manga or Animatsu's releases as I don't own any...

That's not the same disc though. It's a whole new master using the same original materials, so the video/audio will be identical but there are still opportunities for entirely new variations, glitches and playback problems in the new version. It's nitpicky of me, I know, but if it's not actually the same then I will feel misled by getting a different disc, even if the video quality is the same. It also annoys me in principle as the UK company will have paid for an entirely new production run just to strip out some logos (doable in software anyway if you know about the collaboration in advance) and reduce the convenience of using the disc in each region. What a waste of effort to the benefit of nobody :/

(Fortunately none of this applies to the MVM release which is completely identical except for the superficial printing. I'm very happy with it.)

For me, I think the key is the difference between "same discs" and "same content". If someone says it's the same discs then I'd expect it to be the same down to the region coding (using the same master, I guess). If someone says the content on the disc will be the same then I'd be less surprised to find out the region coding is different.

It's not really something that's made very clear all that often, though maybe there's a reason for that.
