New Anime Releases - 04/10/2015

Reviewing Railgun and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Will buy Tokyo Ghoul and probably Magi.

Also, so for the URL appearing on the Railgun DVD link. Have no idea why it looks like that.

Tokyo Ghoul on order, own aniplex release of Magi (as I refuse to get Kaze's even if it's blu Ray I just don't trust them) and I'll get Captain Earth at some point.

Railgun and Captain Earth ordered. Tokyo Ghoul arrived ~5 days ago. I'll hold off on magi until part 2 or perhaps I hear about Kaze not screwing up a release and get it sooner...

Getting Tokyo Ghoul (Should arrive today) and I plan on getting Railgun at some point in the future. I'd also be getting JoJo if it wasn't such a disaster of a release.

You know the UK anime industry is in dire straits when people write off a release on a superior format simply because of the distributor.

What's wrong with the release? I was going to get it at some point as i've never seen JoJo before and it's cheap enough to try.

Assuming it's the same master as the US DVD release, it has Incredibly cheap looking menus, 26 episodes squeezed on to 3 discs, dubtitles and unskippable English Credits at the end of every episode. I guess if you want to watch the show cheaply it will do but I've start collecting the JP blu rays so I have no use for it.

Nothing for me. Was thinking about Tokyo Ghoul but probably wait for a standard edition, and even then probably not. Magi is something I would like to watch but apparently there's issues with the first series so I'll just pass on it. Not touching that mess of a Jojo's release which is a shame.

The incredibly cheap looking menus complaint is baffling, who stares at the goddamn menu? The Warner Bros. standard menu serves it's purpose and is far better than the Universal standard menu (in that it actually has legible text and not just symbols), so I'd stop moaning, because it could be so much worse...

As I said before, I'm considering importing the US release and muxing CR's subs in with it.

I complain because if I buy an official product I expect it to look better than something I could make myself in 10 minutes. Sure, it's not of huge importance, but it just makes the release feel really bootleg and dampens the experience on the whole. Besides, if the menu was the only issue, I'd still buy it. The menu just the cherry on top. A very bad cherry on a very bad cake.

As I said before, if you're starting a menu complaints group, go for the blu-ray release of Suits S1, where there's no text, only symbols (despite it asking for a language before it takes you to the menu), and episodes are numbered rather than named, only the numbers are in colour that's illegible, so you have to squint at the screen and guess.

That's what baffles me the most, it's not even a poorly done standardised menu, it's just standardised. I don't see why that's problematic...

I'm not suggesting it's the worst thing ever or even unusable or anything, it's just ugly. I wouldn't expect this kind of treatment from any other Anime release. Hell, Warner even had perfectly good menus from the blu rays! They could have easily adapted the menus from some of the BDs. Hell, looking on YouTube, one bootleg release did just that.

It's not perfect but it's still 10x better than the official menu and that's a bootleg! I think you're making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill on this. I told you, it's not the reason why people shouldn't buy this release but it certainly doesn't help.

If it was put out by a anime company like Manga, MVM or AL i would agree the menu isn't great but remember this is Warner Bros and it's a DVD release not Blu-ray, they won't be putting a lot of effort into a DVD menu as long as it's easy to use and you can tell what the DVD is for that's good enough for them. I haven't watched any of WB's DVDs in quite awhile but they don't have menus like the blu-rays, it's usually just a static image background.

I do agree that having dubtitles instead of subtitles is pretty bad but that's the only 'proper' defect with the release.

Generally their blu-ray menus are of a similar design, but with the buttons along the bottom and with a static image (or very slight video, it's never full on) above it and a music loop. It's cheap, but I don't think it makes the product feel any more like a bootleg, unless you're looking for reasons to hate the release.

Not getting Railgun because I didn't enjoy Index.
Not getting Captain Earth because I didn't enjoy it streaming.
Not getting JoJo because I have it all on BD so this version doesn't exactly appeal (I don't care about the menu, though).
Not getting Magi because I'm waiting for it to get some kind of decent release from a company which respects its customers.
Not getting Yu-Gi-Oh! because it's dub-only.

I need to sort out an order for Tokyo Ghoul very soon!

Might put Railgun on my Birthday/Christmas list, or wait for the price to drop as it'll be a blind buy
Still need to try Captain Earth
Will be picking up JoJo as my brother's a casual fan and will only watch things dubbed. Does all the JP JoJo release have English subtitles?
Magi, I wanted to watch this on Animax as I subscribed to their 3 months deal but they stopped it after a month ^^'
Might pick up Yu-Gi-Oh! if it goes down in price for my brother
Tokyo Ghoul CE is on it's way
