New ADV titles on Play.com

Hellsing was in a brick DVD case, I think they call them M-lock cases. It's just like a normal DVD case but thicker and holds more DVD's. I'm thinking thats what these boxsets will be like since that's what ADV have usually given us in the past. Boogiepop, the original Evangelion set, Hellsing.

But Hellsing was released twice was it not? I bought the first one in that 'brick' M-lock thing, but it got re-released in the proper thinkpak box I'm sure... I thought the Samurai X collection that was just released was in a thinpak form.. if it isn't then I don't know why they bothered releasing it again.. both these have come out in M-lock before.
What about their latest releases of Dai-Guard collection and Z.O.E.. I thought they were thinpak too.. If they are, ADV really are still letting us down big time, thinpaks are a sure win even in the UK, it's not like they couldn't just get a bunch of cases off ADV US.. Even ADV Germany is getting proper box sets now! This is how ADV UK treat us, after being set up as a company in our country for what, 5 years now? ADV Germany comes along and one of the first releases is an artbox.. and you know the German releases have English audio and subtitles..

I read on AnimeOnDVD actually, that an upcoming release of Gilgamesh, from volume 2 onwards actually, it says:

"In terms of UK release, this disc also marks a change in production for ADV UK that will affect some future releases as well, in that it’s their first disc encoded for both the UK and German markets. As such, there are a couple of differences to the usual presentation worth mentioning. From a video standpoint, the openings and endings are presented in the original Japanese versions, with kanji credits and all. I generally like this practice (though have nothing against translated credits at all), as long as there are full, per-episode, translations of the credits provided. Thankfully, ADV have placed the five original translated end credit rolls (used for the US release) in the credits section of the extras menu, so you can still get the fully translated scroll if you want. In my eyes, this is the best of both worlds and I like it!"

Utawarerumono, that was quick.

I still think the boxsets are a little too much, Elfen Lied R 1 is like £15.

not sexy region 1 box though ^^

just the crappy mask and metallica rip of font for text
Got a picture? play.com doesnt have one.

Nope, it was released in an M-lock again. Just with different cover art this time.

Personally I prefer thinpaks and m-locks. The less space it takes up the better.

Ah that is kind of misleading.. they don't even list what type of box it is on the website either.
I'm guessing the 'new' Samurai X collection was the same M-Lock one as last time then but with a new cover >_>.
Are the thinpak's R1 released like an artbox, but smaller - with the thinpak style DVD cases inside? or is the outer like Manga Ent's usual outer's (card wrapper thing)>

I didn't specifically look, but i am pretty sure the Samurai X set is in a Thinpack; caught it in the corner of my eye.

And the thinpack's are kind of like Manga Ents, card release things. Not really like a artbox, its the same format as most american tv series releases come in (Prison Break, My Name Is Earl, Heroes, etc.)

I wish all boxsets came in thinpaks, especially if I'm ordering online.

Three or four full-sized DVD boxes won't fit through my letterbox...but three or four thinpaks? Oh yes.

Ah I see, that's quite interesting, totally changed what I thought about them  I'd prefer an artbox to a thinpak anyday, so my hunt for art boxes gets bigger, as ADV are going all thinpak now... their Azumanga artbox and Pretear artbox have gone OOP : (
