Naruto scores highest ranking manga volume ever

When have ninjas not been cool?

since the moment the ninja's started fighting like Saiyans lol

i'll admit naruto is an ok anime when naruto fans admit its just a modern day dragonball z

Of course, Naruto shares the conventions of the shounen jump genre just like Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho and even Rurouni Kenshin (training, power ups etc). However, that's where the similiarities end. The characterization and story, not to mention action and animation are so different to DBZ that it seems somewhat pointless to compare the two series. It's like comparing one rock band with another, they both play rock music but each have their own styles, vocals and direction.

Beyond it's roots in the Shounen Jump genre, Naruto is only similiar to DBZ in terms of wide spread popularity and an ability to hook and nurture new anime fans from completely different walks of life.

Uh, while I'm sure we can all agree that it would be nice to see better series get the credit they deserve, it still doesn't seem a bad thing for Naruto to get this recognition...

Although I am slightly put out that it beat Fruits Basket by so much... :p

Wow, i kind of jumped into this a little late.

Something i have to say here: Paul did say, give the series a proper chance, that doesn't mean ~20 eps and write it off, it means at least 133-134 lol, then make your comment, because to be honest anyones opinion without giving it a chance, ok i'll be a little more fair, of 80 eps say, your opinion isn't really valid, because without seeing that many, you wouldn't understand what people like Paul and me actually mean.

Kthxbai, come back once you've seen that many

EDIT:

Alas, some of you need to watch Evangelion's "The hedgehog's dillema" episode again.
Hmm, i seen to remeber the name of this episode, but i'm not too sure what happened in it, could you refresh my mind please :)

I'm sure someone could send you some dvd's with them on, i would but i don't have a dvd burner atm but there are tons of people who would :D *crosses fingers for one soon*

Do you realise what you are saying? 20 episodes is almost one full season series - infact it's more than what some get! That is more than enough methinks!

20 episodes of watching Naruto isn't valid? Maybe I should have stopped at episode 1 like I was going to. :p By then, you either like it or don't. Another 60 episodes of filler won't help.

Same goes with any anime, a few episodes is more than enough to judge whether you'll like it or not.

Don't disregard a valid opinion just because you've seen all of Naruto so far. Ridculing people that watched a bit and didn't like it - won't make them flock back. You are a fan, I am not. I stopped watching it and certainly won't be downloading the latest episode. Just because a few fans are obsessed that we all have to be force fed to 'see the light'.

Over zealous Naruto fans can't handle a bit of critism it seems. As long as there is a valid point - which there is - I don't see why this topic has to continue dragging on. Some fanboys are crying over spilt milk. :D

As i said, come back when you've seen enough to understand what we mean, and yes, even 20 eps is not enough to understand, let alone 1, and you said that seeing 1 ep of 26ep series is enough to judge it, then fair enough, that's because the story has to be packed into 26 eps, or even 13 or w/e, but with a series that will be 200+ eps, it's a different matter, and i seem to remember that even ep 20 wasn't the end of the first arc.

EDIT: I just checked, and ep 20 was the start of the 2nd arc

If you don't enjoy something after about 7 hours of footage why bother forcing yourself to watch more when you could be watching something you do actually like? I don't understand how 20 episodes isn't enough to make a judgement. :?

That's fair enough, if you don't like it, then don't watch it, all i'm saying is that you can't see what we mean unless you have seen enough of the story, and furthermore, even though this post wasn't on the topic of people's opinions on Naruto, it seems to have changed to that, and if you don't like something, then don't post in the topic, especially not to say how bad it is, because it obviously isn't, if that's your opinion then just say you don't like it, not some rubbish about how it's exactly the same as all the other SJ titles and 'fanboy's' can't take a bit of criticism, because that's not true at all, it's as if your stating a fact that something is bad, when it clearly isn't.
Anyway, i don't see any point in continuing this discussion because it's going nowhere and if it does it's going to turn into some flaming session, so shall we just end it here..

just to point out aswell but you are promoting an illegal activity by telling us to get illegal copies of a licenced anime :)

sorry just felt like getting technical :p

dont see that paragraph at all promoting any sort of downloading...

put it this way.

u need to see 200 episodes before u can judge it. only way to do that is to illegally download or buy the dvds.

each dvd holds 4 episodes and is charged at £15 each.

that would result in 50 volumes and a total cost of around £600

so unless ur insane u'd have no way to watch 200 eps and give it a chance would u?

Naruto isn't all that bad, the Ninja Exam was amazing. The rest was just ok. Some great characters (not including the annoying over-the-top Rock Lee) and some great plots, however it got boring fast. I started watching when there was about 50 episodes (watching about 8 episodes a day) I was hooked, but after the exam it got boring fast.

I know that Neppy dislikes this sort of anime, it's just not her taste I think. Mainstream anime is generally one or two types of genres and they might not appeal to some people.

Naruto doesn't deserve all the popularity it gets, even some Shounen-Jump stuff is MUCH better (HxH (and even Bleach) for example) but Naruto came out at the right time (everyone had DSL, fansubs were getting popular and NarutoFan pushed it sooooo much).

not to mention it came just at the end of the DBZ fallout

i know u guys hate it being refered to DBZ but u have to admit, most DBZ fans moved onto Naruto and it picked up alot of fans from everywhere else. thats why its so popular

A lot of comments here seem rather unnecessary. No wonder I don't stop by very much any more >.>;

Okay, just forget which anime it is and just be pleased that it's finally breaking its way into popularity which should mean more money for the franchise and wider distribution. 29th place in a booklist that covers the US market? How is that anything to sneeze at?

I like Naruto, although I find that some of the storylines drag on a little too much. If it's a good storyline, then fair enough. But spending seven episodes on one battle is always a little too much for my liking, heh.

I agree, probably has a lot to do with DBZ. And is much better than DBZ. ^_^

Then again, a lot of anime fans are only fans because of DBZ.

Better than spending 20 episodes like DBZ. ^^;;

but if your one of these people that thinks its giving anime the wrong reputation to new comers wouldn't the higher it gets be a bad thing?

not that i'm one of those people, i just feel Philosophical (is that a word?) today

Well yeah, heh, if you think it's a bad representation then you won't be too happy. But the fact is it's not the only anime around- everyone knows that. But if it can drive a wedge into the market then it can provide room for other (perhaps better) series to follow.
