Based on the works of Jules Verne the anime followed the story of a young inventor named Jean, a young French inventor, and a former circus performer named Nadia, a girl of mysterious origins who wishes to return home. The two are chased by a group of jewel thieves but are rescued by Captain Nemo and his submarine before an even larger enemy emerges.

This new release contains 7 blu-ray discs with 135 minutes of video recording to benefit all 39 episodes plus a 111 page booklet filled with 74 pages Illustrations. The box illustrations have been drawn by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto who worked on the character design on classic titles such as Evangelion, Gunbuster, and Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise. should be bad ass il keep it in mind if it gets a release over here

I doubt that will ever happen, the DVD's only came out in America under the ADV label so getting those will be hard enough.

Nice to see another classic show getting the BD treatment though. It defiantly sparked my interest after seeing a cameo off the characters in an American comic called "Ninja High School". I still would like to watch it, I hear they done a pretty good job on the dub, so far as to get children to perform some roles

Ah Nadia. I'd heard plenty of hate for the island arc before I started, but two episodes into that arc I was wondering what all the hate was about. And then it just kept going, and sucked away all of my enjoyment of the show :<

The artwork is gorgeous but I too own the R1s and it's unlikely I'd fit a double dip into my budget any time soon.

it's been many many years since i saw it on TV, but as far as i remember, the island episodes never bothered me at all. i just loved all the characters (pretty complex for a "kid's show") and couldn't get enough of the series. okay, it abruptly slowed down the tempo of the overall plot and that arc could have been 3-4 episodes shorter, but i liked this drastic and unorthodox change somehow and saw it more as a drawing breath and a chance to getting to know the characters even better, before the finale.

Ah! Nadia SBW; the understated inspiration for NGE and the original source of one of it's major iconic trademarks. I was one of the fortunate to have purchased the entire series from ADV before it went belly up in the UK. I loved the entire series except Jean's serenade to Nadia, and the blatant plagerism of Thunderbirds. I wonder if they ever knew about that? it has top pride of place on my shelf.
