UK Anime Distributor MVM Entertainment Discussion Thread

They did confirm a Blu-ray release, though it's probably taking its time as they need to get the Blu-ray discs for Season 1 sorted (Season 2 got the BD treatment a while back).
Ah, thank you, was half afraid I was slowly going mad without realizing it or something.

Curious that the complete dvd set was released last october though, kind of makes me wonder if perhaps the blu-ray plans fell through and they just quietly released the dvd collection instead...

I'm pretty sure the blu ray was only announced when the dvd came out. They said as they already had all the dvd materials they could just get it released but the blu ray would take a while to prepare and sign off.

I would pray for a Shakugan No Shana S1-S3 Blu-Ray UK release here unless Manga would take over the license due to Shana being a Funi title
Funimation only has the rights to US & Canada so I don't expect Manga to release it unless they want to grab it themselves from Universal Japan.

Here is a list of mvm releases that are dvd only over here at the moment.
Is there a reason MVM (and I'm guessing other distributors) release some titles in dvd format only when they are available in blu ray in other countries? I assumed it was because the licenses were separate for each format and not always given simultaneously but as a layman would find that very odd.

Various factors for why usually comes down to the following:
  1. No Region B Blu-ray master exists for the title, or authored in any English territory.
  2. Title on DVD under-performed.
  3. Reverse importation concerns by the Japanese licensor.
  4. No demand for such title or the window has been missed due to the US release already being available.

In the case of MVM, it used to be there was nobody to share authoring costs, they did a lot of team ups with Australian companies to cut costs, where the Australian release was also not on BD, they'd have to pass or it could be a very niche title and the profit margin was too small, any release back then was better than no release,
Things have changed a lot since, MVM no longer do stand alone DVD releases for most titles

with the recent paring of deals, i wonder if MVM put Domestic Girlfriend on the DOTW what the odds of them also putting Oreimo on as the DVD are

So these are dvd titles in the UK that could get blu ray upgrades eventually

I wouldn't hold my breath for Patlabor, IIRC, MVM all but explicitly ruled it out, saying that their BD of the OVAs sold very poorly.

That's the one I'm least interested in out of all those, so that would be OK! Darker than Black and Gungrave would be my priorities out of that of list... Better yet if they get Darker than Black with S2 and the OVAs, but I'm not holding my breath.

Are these to be released by MVM or various UK Anime publishers? As you're posting on this MVM discussion thread I was quite curious ✌️

Is Owarimonogatari part 1 a full set or season 1 or a half set like part 2 and 3
If you mean the MVM releases part one is 7 episode and part 2 is 6.

Season 3 of Monogatari is made up of

Tsukimonogatari (4 episodes)
Owari (13 episodes the part 1 and 2 by MVM)

Koyomi (12 eps)
Owari II (7 eps)
Zuko (6 eps)

The last three being the upcoming releaes

Edit: the epsiode length for Koyomi is less so although it's more epsiodes it's a similar run time to other parts.
