Multiregion BD/DVD - sub £50 decent brand

Got one. Don't actually have any region A BDs, but it is playing R1 DVDs OK. It is at least doing a better job of upscaling DVDs than my PC does. Not sure how it compares to my Samsung upscaling DVD player because I haven't used it in ages (I remember it made a hash of playing my Manabi discs but they'd be a pain to drag out right now).
The closest BD to hand is Akira and.. well it plays, and downsamples to stereo OK.

Good to know you managed to grab one and it's working OK.
No doubt there'll probably be the odd disc that the player doesn't like (I've yet to find a BD player that doesn't apparently have some issue with some disc or so) but at £50...well....as long as it's not major, oh well :)

It's played every region 1 DVD I've thrown at it fine so far, and the upscaling is at least reasonable.
I also compared my Underworld DVD to the BD. Now admittedly the BD's aren't amazing, but still it was a surprisingly close thing. The DVD was a bit softer, but it really wasn't doing a bad job with it comparatively.

Cheers for this post...I've been after a decent multiregion player for a while.

Went to the Liverpool store today and bought one. There were none out, but I asked the guy behind the counter...apparently they've got quite a few, so he went into the back and came back out with it in a few seconds.

Yeah it was the same with me, none out in the shop, but 4 in the back. Guess they're explicitly trying to keep them as a 'secret' bargain for the people who checkout the pamphlets and R.Sounds website.

From the little I've thrown at it so far, it's doing well, although it does have an issue with the Prophet on Bluray (seems to be a mastering issue/incompatibility)

Likewise - with limited shelf space they want to keep the newer ones on display I imagine. Found it in the pamphlet, and also got myself some natty wooden earphones for a tenner (originally £50).

Jesus, that's a crazy bargain as long as they don't substitute it for the BDX1250.

That's exactly what Argos did! and they tried to pass it off as a catalogue printing error! (That was there last chance too!)

But I managed to get to Richer Sounds in the end, quickly in and out within five minutes, after ringing at about 10:15am to learn there where 17 still in stock at the time!

I'm guessing you got one then :)

It's a good player, a little more susceptible to read errors, compared to the other players we have but still decent, upscale well, multiregion capable and really cheap!

Concerning this thread, the difference is that you can set the 1200 region free by installing a certain release of the Australian firmware, this is not possible for the 1250. So if you buy a 1250 you get a region blocked BD player (at least there aren't known cheats for it at this moment).
I suppose Toshiba released the 1250 just after coming to know about this fact.

There are some other minor differences between the 1250/1200 as well like USB positionings I think. I think the lack of region-free on the 1250 is more to do with the fact it's not sold in Aus, but the point still stands in regards to this thread.

Like I said earlier, it seems a little more prone to read errors etc than some of the other players around the house, but for £40-50, it's a good player.

Why, when you can get it new for less (unless you can't have a local Richer Sounds)?

One thing I'm wondering is, after uploading the Aus firmware, if you try to update it over the internet will it go for the Aus or UK version?

I think it's better not trying to update the cheatish version of the AUS firmware, since most probably you will loose the ability to change BD region.

The nearest store is 2 hours drive away, so i'd end up spending the money in petrol that I would do in delivery prices.
Anyway, I've gotten the player and updated the FW on it, I couldnt believe how easy this is to hack although my only gripe is pressing Setup and '8520' everytime I want to play a region A BD but its a small sacrifice.

Aha, cheers.

Watch out for tescos current blu ray player sales as there selling the Toshiba 1250's for £90 in store. NOT the 1200s. Just saying if your tempted to pick on up with your weekly shop.

Btw, as a small aside from anyone else who picked up these, and happens to have an AVR setup:-

I've noticed a few glitches with bitstreaming some HD audio tracks (dropouts/glitching), they seem to originate from the player as upon testing one such example (Baka to Test US, region A/B) in another player I borrowed from the family it bitstreams the same section I used to test flawlessly.

Now one trick I've picked up, is that if you set the HDMI audio output to PCM instead of Bitstream, suddenly those audio glitches disappear and the same section of video plays without issue.

It's 100% a problem with the player that should probably be addressed with a firmware update, but until such time as a multi-region update is available, I figured anyone else running into similar glitches might appreciate the headsup on the workaround til there's a proper fix :)
