More Ghibli on Channel 4

This is what hard-drives are for: downloading and watching whenever you can be bothered. The hell to staying up until the early hours just to watch old Ghibli films.

To be honest, I don't see why this was posted here... It's not as if anime classis being used to fill up the early morning TV schedule says anything good about the UK and anime.
 
It's still news, and somewhere there's an innocent fan-in-waiting who will be unable to sleep and accidentally catch a snippet of GotF. Then the seed will be sewn. He or she will turn up here in a decade's time and tell us the story of how they first got into anime and if old Rui is still alive she'll smile a little.

Anime on UK tv is something of a rarity these days, thus I'd say it constitutes news. Though admittedly those are some unfriendly viewing times.
 
The first big run Film4 did with Ghibli was in primetime.

J_C_X, minor correction to your list, 4th Dec 14:35 on Film4 is Only Yesterday, not Whisper.

Heck, Ghibli got me into anime, albeit when Laputa first came out :)
 
I'll have to try and remember to catch the Film4 showings, as they're okay times.

And to be fair, this is some fair news, as these are being shown on Channel 4 afterall, not just Film4, but one of the major terrestrial channels.

Interesting fact - a Ghibli anime has never aired on American terrestrial television so in that regards, British TV has that going for it.
 
We've got Only Yesterday on DVD over the Yanks as well - Disney didn't release that stateside as it referances periods (Think of the Children!) and hopefully we'll soon have Ocean Waves / I Can Hear The Sea, as Optimum have the rights to it now.
 
Not to mention Earthsea before the US (admittedly due to theirs being in a tangle with rights temporarily).

I liked Earthsea so it counts as a good thing. I think I might be in a minority.

Time to break out the 'magic' of sky+. :D Assuming that is, of course, I get film4 and its not one of those 'free' channels that sky blocks anyways. -.-

Nah you can get film4 of course i'm another one who has the dvds on his shelves so i don't have to worry about the showings :)

I love it lol, nearly everyone has the DVDs. They need to show better movies. Why oh why dont htey just put the GITS movies on.
