Time to break out the 'magic' of sky+. :D Assuming that is, of course, I get film4 and its not one of those 'free' channels that sky blocks anyways. -.-

Nah you can get film4 of course i'm another one who has the dvds on his shelves so i don't have to worry about the showings :)

I love it lol, nearly everyone has the DVDs. They need to show better movies. Why oh why dont htey just put the GITS movies on.

Well it could be that the ghibli movies are the best to show to an audience who don't know what anime is (as side that is non-american animation) :p As good as Ghost in the Shell was, you show that to some people and they are likely to either not understand the plot and the talk in the film and then lose intrest entierly, or they are only going to take notice of the parts where Motoko is naked, thus the film will be lost to them. :p

Black & Me = Nearly Everybody  :thumb:

Call me crazy, but get some bloody Kon films on TV. Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers especially would make great Christmas films.

I'd love to see Kon's films on TV, preferably at a reasonable hour. The problem is that nobody would watch them. None of them are kids' films and the average British adult just doesn't take anime seriously.

Fixed.

Truth is, only recently there were some animations in the west that were adult oriented. Animations are becoming more enjoyable by adults in recent years, but it will be a long time before it is taken seriously in the west.
Sad, but true. =/

Well, I said British because we're specifically talking about the UK. But you're right, of course :)
I know what you mean, I actually just wanted to stress that this is not an UK specific phenomenon, it's more a west thing.

Movies like Shrek and some of pixar's might change this, as they are enjoyable by both kids and adults, but it is a long way before we see more animations for adults around here.

Exactly. And you know that this point alone will trigger said guy into buying the film to show his mates, buying the second film, then move onto Paranoia Agent etc merely loving it for the pervy scenes (Yeah, we all know what part im on about in Paranoia Agent. Camera...Kid... Dad watching it...Some **** like that...)

But on a serious note like, thats the problem is I bet loads of people have seen these films just, to them its all repeats. They need to show fresh new stuff. Il admit i've not seen many Anime films but I mean even I could pick some fresher stuff just from word of mouth.

Also if they dont like the Ghibli style, then they are lost for good as all we show is frickin' Ghibli. Personally i've never seen a Ghibli film, and they dont appeal to me much at all. I'd much rather watch Blood+, GITS, etc.

The correction here is that its only filmFour and channel 4 who are showing Ghibli, when other channels show anime its different. Like ITV not that long ago showed Ghost in the Shell. I've got a feeling its a gamble though with taking a risk and showing one of the movies. The fans are likely to already have seen them and own them while others may be put off (there is something to be said for timing issues as well).

Sci-Fi channel a while back used to reguarly show anime movies on a thursday night, but as we know they stopped it (best hope for it coming back though)

However i could be wrong i don't pretend to know how the TV industry works. Though if you weren't a fan would you watch something you hadn't heard buzz about it? like or not Ghibli is known to many people now (Spriited Away helped with that i think when it won that Oscar)

At the end of the day there will still be people watching these (i've got a hunch that Channel 4 may show them at a more child friendly time during the xmas holidays) Though who knows maybe all of these hollywood adaptions may bring around an unforseen change and we'll start seeing more on tv :p

I love ghibi and I am starting to collect all the films so that I can strike them off my anime list!

same same though Totoro, Kiki and Spirited away are the only ones i've seen thus far
Watch princess Mononoke. It's my favourite Ghibli ever. For a bit more serious one , I like whisper of the heart. People might tell you about Grave of the fireflies, but seriously, I don't see you watching tear jerking movies, Otaku.
