So what's the deal I remember anime being awesome with mature themes and just hardcore in general now its just kinda well [word deleted by moderator]..... Not to flame. But what happened? Is there still any stuff like Akira, Appleseed, Cyber city oedo 808, Guyver, AD police about? I don't want any recommendations of this big eyed crap, and **** aimed at kids, and no porn please. Don't recommend me stuff like Elfen lied either it's not what I'm looking for far from the mark.

Cheers

Did I or did I not clearly state "No porn." I just want something that's not aimed at 13 year old's and falls into the categories I described. Simple enough question no need to be a dick.

I guess you're not letting Curo-kun pass as "art" then? Major bonus points for thinking I was seriously suggesting that, though. :p The attitude you came in with usually leads to me trying to get people to end up with Curo-kun in their google search history somewhere, though.

As for serious suggestions, you might want to try... err... Cromartie High School? Shigurui? Sword of the Stranger? I'm not 100% sure what you actually want.

Please don't use that word as a negative descriptor, EnZyme. In fact, if you addressed people slightly less aggressively when demanding things from them things might go more smoothly.

As for suggestions, uh, Rin/Mnemosyne has a similar feel to old Manga UK releases, but if you want me to try to think harder I'd appreciate some civility. Quite a few of the classic series you're looking for are still available too.

There we go that's better some of those actually seem to be right on the mark. If you've got any other suggestions like those you mentioned let me know I'll be giving them a go.

Let's be honest here most of the stuff manga brought in the 90's was utter shite. Ghost in the shell, ninja scroll and akira were really the only thing worth owning from them

ah old day manga, remember buying a dvd from game for chaz (possibly ninja scroll) completely unaware it had hentai in it :D

how to corrupt a 15 year old, by Ryo Chan

It's not that recent, but I think Berserk is definitely worth mentioning.

If you liked AD Police, you might want to look for Parasite Dolls. It's not as good, but it's set in the same universe and it certainly captures that sleazy atmosphere that AD Police had.

Redline would probably be a good shout as well, but the DVD is still about three weeks away from release.

If Chaz hadn't seen hentai by the time he was 15, then I feel sorry for him

Also, OP. You gotta check out Boku no Pico.

Recently watched ICE, due for release by Cine du Monde on 7th November, and it is a pure early 90's Manga Video title in all but name.

Meaning the story is all over the place, and not all that well thought out, but it has none of the modern anime tropes, has a whole lot of uber violence to it, and the animation's kind of old fashioned.

Sentai's supposed to be dubbing it for the US, but if it doesn't get a proper, crap Manga Video dub, dodgy accents and excessive swearing, then they're doing something wrong. I was mega nostalgic watching it, but in a 21st Century frame of mind, it isn't that good.

I'd be inclined to direct EnZyme to AUKN's rather splendid reviews database.

It's almost impossible, I've found, to give out recommendations to folks based solely on a qualifier like 'I liked what Manga were putting out in the early '90s', as that's still quite an open-ended statement. manga put out quite a variety of stuff, even considering the limitation sof the market back then. Some of it was great, some of it was tripe.

Plus, I notice a lot of folks are posting here from time to time asking for recommendations. It's a tough call, really - how can one person accurately decide what will appeal to another?

So - there y'go folks. Consider that my plug for the hard working reviewers and editors of AUKN!

There are the list of titles referenced. That should give some idea of what the topic starter is looking for.

Eh, it's less about accurately deciding what will appeal to someone else than about giving some ideas which the person asking can then look into if they wish - and that's where the database comes in. Just pointing to that without offering any suggestions will entail reading through reviews of titles that are of little interest.

Oh, and I definitely second Basilisk.
