Manga Entertainment dominates NEO Awards 2011

To paraphrase Mark Twain: "I admire you, I frankly confess it; and when your time comes I shall buy a piece of the rope for a keepsake."

To be honest though, most "legit" anime merch is probably just as bad quality as the "counterfeit" stuff, so it really makes little difference aside from a slightly shonky logo here or there.

Actually that's where you would be wrong, legit merch is much better quality that the fake stuff you can instantly tell the difference.

You use the word 'probably' so I'm guessing that you haven't really bought anything legit.

Trust me there is a massive difference, at least legit gets the colours right -unlike some bootleg I've seen- and as ayase said original creators or manufactures. Id rather pay more for quality and have the money go some where it should not to some one is China that sells fakes to mugs or people that just don 't care

-sorry little rant over-

Well I bought some Death Note figures on ebay and I'm pretty sure they were bootleg, so when I found a site selling the legit versions I bought a couple there to replace the more shoddy bootleg ones. As it turns out there was very little difference, to the point where, if you didn't know, you probably wouldn't guess they were bootleg, the main difference was matte vs slick paint and the matte (bootleg) actually kinda looked better :p)

Returning to NEO and Manga, does anyone know if the two have any sort of actual business connection? Does Manga own NEO or anything similar?

Good heavens no. Manga doesn't even own Manga (they're part of Starz, which is American). Neo is Uncooked Media.
Manga is simply the biggest UK anime company right now. Would you be surprised at FUNimation walking about with a majority of awards if this was a US mag?

Presuming that FUNimation is the biggest anime distributor in the US I suppose not.

This just confirms Manga UK are nothing more than Funimation with a different hat on.

Will this get manga to realise they've almost totally alienated men as an audience??
Er, it's one title (Hetalia being the manga version). Perhaps Neo magazine has "alienated men", since it was voted for by fans, but I don't see a company which is putting out titles like Strike Witches and Dance in the Vampire as particularly shunning one particular gender.

If you say so Rui... ;P
Those titles are aimed at men, so she's right. You're misunderstanding something.

Okay, I'm going to start formatting my posts like this from now on:

"Er, it's one title (Hetalia being the manga version). Perhaps Neo magazine has "alienated men", since it was voted for by fans, but I don't see a company which is putting out titles like Strike Witches and Dance in the Vampire as particularly shunning one particular gender." said Rui of Reaper gI's comment to the effect that Manga Entertainment releases were no longer appealing to their male audience.

ayase, as someone who was not a fan of cutesy loli fan-service shows, decided to take a light-hearted jab at it's fans by questioning their manhood. "If you say so Rui" he said with a grin. The shows did not appeal to him, and he was a man.

Maxon however didn't notice the smiley ayase had added, both winking and sticking it's tongue out to denote how not serious his comment was. Or perhaps he did and was calling ayase out for not taking the discussion seriously enough or because he didn't find his comment amusing. ayase didn't know.

Meanwhile, Rui wished that the conversation would move on as every time she read the quote she saw that she had somehow missed the word "Bund" when typing the original title. Her fragile ego took a huge blow every time the mistake was quoted ;_;

ayase wasn't sure if it seemed more condescending to correct Rui's original mistake without mentioning it, or to mention it. So he did neither and hoped no-one else would notice. "I could get to like posting like this." He mused to himself.

Meanwhile, Joshawott came into this thread and wondered why everyone was speaking in the third person.

However, rather than questioning the system and comparing it to a Japanese anime high-school girl who also refers to themselves in the third person, Joshawott let it slide.

Otkau-san just uguu'ed. A favoured idiosyncratic expression that he was sure even the simplest could get, since he knew that posting anything meaningful or intelligible would be too much for average users to comprehend.

In my defence. using just the word "men" isn't obvious as to what the joke is. My bad for not getting it though.

Vashdaman failed to understand the meaning of said idiosyncratic expression. But none the less he enjoyed the chance to refer to himself in third person -much like he does in the privacy of his own home- without looking strange.

Alex wandered into the thread, had a quick read, and quickly realised that lest he be lost to the vagaries of prose dialogue, he had best leave quickly.

Unfortunately, he didn't quite escape quickly enough, and a new victim was added to the thread. There was an undeniable sadness to this fact, which was complicit with the fact that enough sleep had not been garnered over the weekend resulting in a direct lack of mental agility.

Damn that overtly tempting coffee that was perhaps directly responsible for this direct disadvantage of human physiology.

Meanwhile, back in the land of the sane...

I'm also rather curious as to who the hell would vote a Pokemon game as GOTY. Don't get me wrong, I like me some Pokeymans, but the series never comes across as GOTY material. Especially when there are games like Deus Ex HR and Arkham City going about.
