Manga Entertainment dominates NEO Awards 2011

Because Dues Ex and Batman aren't anime like or Japanese enough to get love from Neo readers, presumably?

I mean, personally I wouldn't have voted Dir en grey as musical act of the year either, but I guess they had the advantage of being Japanese an looking like they watch too much anime themselves.

Pokemon is very good though, pokemon has always been actually quite a deep game... I really want to play this new one, but I'm afraid it might detract from my manliness

I'd take Pokemon over Deus Ex HR or Batman any day. The only Batman game I liked was Lego Batman.

People need to stop caring so much about how they are perceived and relax a little.

Meanwhile, back in the land of the sane...

I'm also rather curious as to who the hell would vote a Pokemon game as GOTY. Don't get me wrong, I like me some Pokeymans, but the series never comes across as GOTY material. Especially when there are games like Deus Ex HR and Arkham City going about.
Pokémon Black and White were rather phenomenal games. Especially as this new pair included the most fascinating villain in Pokémon history and expanded on the whole idea that some may see Pokémon battles as cruel. Team Plasma took something Pokémon fans laughed about and made it into a serious story with a villain who is very easy to sympathise with - N is definitely the most human character the series has ever produced (Shame Junichi Masuda had to reveal his full name to be Natural Harmonia Gropius...the Natural part coming from "Natural Number").

Gameplay wise, the series was really boosted with the use of the C-Gear, allowing trading and battling to occur regardless of where you were in the game, which is a major improvement over previous instalments where you had to go to the Pokémon Centre. Same with the addition of Random Wi-Fi battles; although that's kind of hindered by people being sore losers and disconnecting just as you beat them.

The Dream World website that connects to the games has given players access to new abilities for old Pokémon that has quite literally changed the entire metagame and made several crap Pokémon pretty darn amazing now.

One awesome thing about Pokémon games is their replay value; I easily clock up over 400 hours on each Pokémon game, training up new teams to take part in annual official tournaments and occasional Wi-Fi tournaments and stuff.

Haha, Im not really serious with this whole "manly" thing (well ok, I'm about 50% serious). No the main thing that is holding me back from the Pokeman glory is my lack of money to buy a DS

I thought the arrival of the 3DS would bring the DS price down? Anyway, I'm not all that interested in these 5th gen 'Mons. I prefer first and second gen. I even like 4th gen over 3rd and 5th.

You are reading a thread from nearly a week ago.

You are surprised at Rui's omission of the word "Bund" in the title of a certain anime series.

You feel that Vashdaman may need to be banned at some point if he can't stop being deliberately antagonistic and so assured of his uninformed "opinion".

You are wondering why the majority of the thread was typed in the first person.

You can see a path to the North.

Go North?

Just for my own future reference. Was it the voicing of my somewhat low opinion of NEO or was it the voicing of my equally low opinion of anime merchandise that you felt to be antagonizing?

It was mainly the latter, although I gave you full "tongue in cheek" points for the comment about the profits going to the creators.

Incidentally, I checked out this issue of NEO when I was in Tesco the other day, it actually looked a little better than I would have given it credit for, but looked hideously overpriced for the amount of content it provides.

I think the price is so high because it is a rather exclusive product with regards to the content. After all there are no other British magazines solely devoted to anime, so they effectively have the monopoly.

Yeah, it's niche, and the circulation must be tiny, but I think they could probably provide a bit more content at not too much extra cost.

I might be a lefty but I can't help but thing this is one of those things where a bit of competition would be a good thing. If there was more than one anime magazine then that would urge NEO to do more.

the first 2 gens will always be the best in my eyes. I don't hate on the new designs because they're new, it's just so few are visually arresting or any good and some of them are just getting derpier and derpier looking.

Unless they make a full 3d open world style pokemon, soul silver is my last and I'm quite frankly fine with that. The gameplay changes so little that if you don't care for the new mons there's very little point in upgrading.
