Jerome of Manga UK sounds off about licensing restrictions

Heh, I think you actually covered some good points. The example of TWGOK is exactly what I was looking for in terms of low price not being related to good sales figures.

But in the case of Code Geass, it's arguable the Kaze reprit did far better for itself than Beez and the dumb flipper case ever did.

Even despite their reputation of screwing up just about every release they've ever put out?

Casual fans don't know about it and I don't think they'd even care as much as we do :/

Case in point: A friend bought their Bakuman release even after I explained the major issues with it. He didn't care at all, he just wanted to own a show he enjoyed.

And how much outreach did Manga do for TWGOK, exactly? Cuz I can imagine it being next to bugger all.

I seem to remember at the time their social media feeds were overflowing with something else that was still several weeks away.

Hmmm, true. The lack of promotion certainly didn't help it. What I believe would've been a good strategy with the title was to promote it to the female audience, they could've said it's for fans of Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran in my experience is stupidly popular, a sort of entry title for females, sure they're not too similar but I always think fans of Ouran would like TWGOK. Comparing a new release to a another title should always be a good idea IMO, like Jormungand ...throw out the similarity to Black Lagoon ya'know..

There always seems to be more promotion for bigger titles with Manga, that's fair enough but the smaller titles deserve a lot of hype too, they might do better that way. Most of the time casual fans may not even know something is even out over here.

I will give them their due though, Jeremy Graves has been doing much more promotion for each title nowadays and I think that's great :)

Re: Jerome of Manga UK sounds off about licensing restrictio

Ouran continues to sell ridiculously well to this day (helped by the fact you can pick it up for a tenner on Amazon).

But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how Jormungand does as I've mostly read very positive reviews of it, so will be nice to see if that impacts sales much.

Hopefully it does since over in the US it's not doing so well (I seriously hope Funimation doesn't slam the series into the S.A.V.E. line at this rate).

I think season 1 of Geass is probably the one title they didn't mess up, quickly fixed by dropping the extras from season 2.

I'm a fan of Jerome. He's like the Marvin Gaye of the UK anime industry. Marvin is one of my all time heroes, so I hope you can all comprehend the plaudits I'm choosing to give J-bird with that sentence.

You mean he's a singer who gripes at his dad untill it all explodes into a gun into his guts?
