It's a (plastic) Gundam!!!

I've got a slew of HGUC I've built (badly) over the last few years but lockdown has got me hankering for things to do and I'm tempted to try an MG. Is HLJ still the supplier of choice or are there better sources in the UK or Europe?

HLJ are always good, haven't used them in a while as my LCS can get in just about any non P-Bandai kit for me.

If you are looking for premium stuff www.hobbyfrontline.com is not a bad choice. They ship from Ireland and are quite a bit cheaper than Gundam Mad. May have some additional charges after this year due to Brexit though.

i've been watching Gundam on and off over the last couple months and now i'm kinda interested in buying a figure, i tried looking at the hobbyfrontline website in the above post and kinda got lost and confused with what to look for

i'm trying to find the double Zeta from ZZ that splits into parts and transforms into the full mecha i guess kinda like a transformers figure, before looking on the site my only real knowledge of gundam figures were the ones that you glue together but i'm not really interested in those

Your best bet for that would be the MG ZZ Ver Ka, it isn't the cheapest of kits though but not pricy either. The HG splits as well as does the original MG but are not the most posable of figures, the big shoulders and backpack don't make for very good arm movement.

that one seems decently priced, i'll keep an eye on it and try and order it if it comes back instock

This is a "close enough" thread to ask this

Currently looking at getting a few paints and was planning to stick with Tamiya

But the paint conversion table I've found is a little... Off? (Please dont hate me for saying this)

Example

H55 = Tamiya X3
H56 = Tamiya XF18

But from the looks online they are very different colors

Would it be best to stick with Kotobukiya colors as they are in the manual. Or would the conversion table be pretty ok to use

Post from a complete novice when it comes to gunpla building

Finished both my Daban Freedom and Daban Sakura Freedom kits and decided to post about them

Quality of plastic seems pretty decent and the finish on the parts were a mix between very good and "fine" with some of the edges looking very unfinished

Fitting of the parts also varies greatly between fine and simply not fitting without glue (or.. even with glue when it comes to the pivot section attaching the wings). My experience of old forgeworld stuff helped a lot when it came to finding what parts were an issue. Even when everything fits together fine, moving a hand or simply thinking about touching the waist, something will fall off

If you want a kit you can just assemble out of the box then I can't recommend these.

Its clear they've used the same mould for both colors as all the issues I faced with the original color, I also faced with the sakura. It made building the sakura model pretty touble free and I even went back to make final alterations to the original color kit

Next is the price. I dont really see why people would buy the default color kit. The Bandai MG is usually available for £10 more than the Daban, so value wise I would buy the Bandai. HOWEVER the Sakura kit was P Bandai kit. Meaning aftermarket prices are stupid. So for this reason the Sakura or Midnight Black options might be an option if you want to give them a try (I have no idea if the Midnight Black was ever released?)

Overall pretty happy considering the original color kit didnt cost me anything. The seller shipped the wrong one, issued a refund and told me to keep it as an apology.

Just going by the Sakura kit costing £30 after shipping and fees. I'm going to say I'm pleased and happy for another pink gundam to be part of my collection. I'm not rushing out to buy the midnight black ver anytime soon 😹

Not applied transfers as I'm terrible with them.

Final Thought - someone with experience in building / modding kits might have a great time building this kit. While a novice might feel like throwing this thing at a wall more than once 😹😹
