Is it me or does United Publications need an overhaul

Don't get me wrong, I love using UP1 but I feel the site needs some simple but badly needed improvments, mainly when it comes to finding a DVD. Like for example being able to go through the DVD catalouge of a studio or genre, most other online stores (like Anime-On-Line) have that sort of feature but not UP1?...I know it sounds like not much to bother about but it would make looking for stuff to buy a bit more easier.

It surprises me that UP1 has been around for so long but has never made any changes/improvements to the site at all, who here thinks it could do with that?

Their search function is OK imo (not amazing, but does the job). There are plenty of sites you can use to find out what series a studio has made, or recommendations in a certain genre, and then search for the title you want on shopping sites afterwards. They could do with not being run by a bunch of furries, though, makes navigating their site in work a no-no.

I'd agree, you can't even automatically update your address. When you enter an address change your told to wait until business hours for it to change.

Love them, but their website does seriously need an update.

Not trying to be funny or nuffink, but have you taken your concerns to the store itself?

It would be handy to search DVDs by studio, but other than that I have no major issues with the site.

Personally, I take real exception to the way that site presents itself.

Not enough robots eh? ;-)

I jest, but seriously that website does feel a wee bit like it was designed in about 1997 -it's not the most slick site around ( Anime Online isn't much better..)

Building websites costs time and money, neither of which a retailer of such products will have. I will echo the sentiment that if you're going to moan, go moan at them.

Changing the layout should be as simple as messing around with the stylesheets, or whatever's in use now.

Database work is potentially going to involve a lot of data entry and possible disruption to sales if anything goes wrong, so they may not be so keen on that.

What I did object to was the complete lack of response to a query double-checking that their R2 box-set release of Kurau: Phantom Memory listing was correct (it only got to volume 4 in the UK?).

Creepy furry is creepy.

They specialise in furry stuff as well as anime you know, although Eric Schwartz stuff never seemed creepy back when they covered it in Amiga magazines (long before I ever came across the whole furry culture however...)

But, like, this is the problem, not the thing that excuses the problem. Surely they could run one or the other separately?

^ To be fair to them, they don't shove the furry stuff in your face: you'd have to look for it or click on random publisher links. Except for the Christmas... thing... bunny? If you don't like the thought of the two being associated then that's understandable, but I'm not sure that many casual fans would stumble across the site.

Also, if they maintained two separate sites that could add extra costs to what may already be a marginally profitable business.

Not to argue there, but:

I was referred to the site by somebody else when I was having difficulty finding a DVD box set I was after. I wasn't aware of United Publications beforehand, and when I first saw the front page of the site...

Well, I didn't feel comfortable with the idea of investigating further. 'Nuff said.

That's a pretty big "except" imo, and not the first time they've had something like that. I don't really care as much as I'm making out, but it does surprise me.

Wow... I just went to have a look for curiosity, and was like "This doesn't too bad"

...

And then the bunny-girl loaded.
