Hi

Maromi

Completely Average High School Student
Unfortunately I'm not one of those people who "needs no introduction" so here's mine. I'm Nick, 21 and from Glasgow, I only got into anime really within the last 6 months or so, but it has been a joyous 6 months so far. I'm almost ashamed to say now that for years I had rejected anime out of hand, my exposure to it had been very limited (Pokemon and the odd Dragonball Z episode when I was younger), and the only other thing I had to go on was the stereotypical images of giant mecha and weird porn, so for the most part anime was a strange creature that I dare not approach...However, I had always been somewhat curious.

Then came the day, about 14 months ago, that curiosity got the better of me. With some spare Microsoft points I decided to rent a couple films on my xbox, the last of which was Ghost in the Shell. It won't surprise many when I say that I was blown away by the film, the sheer beauty of it enchanted me, in particular the scene moving through the city with the Major and the haunting song in Japanese. Despite this I was still reluctant somewhat, unsure if I was ready, I decided to return to my only previous encounter with anime, which I had enjoyed, to see how it held up and to ease myself in.

I couldn't believe how good Pokemon actually was (specifically the Kanto stuff, though I hold no particular grudges against any of the regions/arcs it's this that I feel is the best with Hoenn also recieving much love). I carried on my journey becoming further (re)engrossed with Pokemon, including the stuff I had not seen before as a child (the majority of Johto and onwards) and before I knew it I was taking my first steps into the real stuff, tentative tiptoes into the world of Miyazaki via Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, and they spurred me on further to the point where it has become my favourite thing and also the reason as to why I'm writing such a long winded, but passionate, introduction on a forum specifically for discussing this wonderful art.

Although the subject title was short the content wasn't, so I'll apologise for taking up your time if you actually bothered to read all this and roundup with a list of some of my favourite anime: Pokemon, Azumanga Daioh, Air, Death Note, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell (movies 1/2 and S.A.C. 1st/2nd gig), Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Ninja Scroll, Elfen Leid, Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Paranoia Agent (I love the work of Satoshi Kon if it's not noticeable)

Air > all of your other favorites. Welcome to the forums mate, enjoy your stay.

You should check up on the 'Chat' feature if you are simply looking to talk.

We'll get on very well my friend. Paranoia Agent and GITS are two of my all-time favorites 8) Nice to see another Death Note fan too 8)

I welcome thee.

That was also my first anime and the exact same moment which stuck out and made me a fan. Welcome aboard. Now, watch Patlabor. The OVAs, then the films if possible. But definitely the films.

ps. Kon is brilliant, I think that's pretty much universally acknowledged around here.

Welcome to the forums Maromi. You've started well on your anime adventure and there are many mighty fine roads to choose from where you stand now. GitS Is also one of my all time favourites. The 2nd feature length anime I ever saw (first being The Overfiend but enough about that). Hope to catch you online at some point.
:p

Thanks for the friendly welcome guys, hope to see you around the forums and I might check the chat out too.

I do love Air so much, and I must say I actually fell in love with Misuzu, that scene with Yukito when she tries to show him the card trick and breaks down in tears because she's getting close to him. God, just so heart breaking, and don't even get me started on the ending, I was balling my eyes out at that.

Death Note was a big turning point for me actually, was the first series I picked up and was just utterly hooked from the first episode, I couldn't believe I had previously allowed something so fantastic to pass me by.

Yeah mon I was the same. After Death Note it went onto Bleach for me, if you care to check that out. Can't say the two are similar really though.

But, if you loved Death Note, you would f*cking love Code Geass. It has so many similarities to Death Note, and it's just plain outstanding.

Drop by chat anytime too btw.

Bonjour, mon compitant. Welcome to the forums.

I'm working my way through Trigun myself atm, although I skip the intro/outro, as I cant stand it. Butthe show itself's pretty kool.
And I also recomend Code Geass, however, I say that without being a Death Note Fan. Just an awesome show with mecha and some good humour.

I was the same man. If you liked Air, watch Clannad / Clannad afterstory and Kanon (2006 remake). Both KyoAni, both full of win and watch them subbed NOT DUBBED.

Hooray! Another legionnaire to add to our numbers.
(I must warn you however: discussion pertaining to the 'm' word quite often brings about stark disagreement amongst forumites.)

I've watched the first episode of Code Geass (I like to watch the first episodes of things to see if I like them and if I do and I can buy it it gets added to my ever growing wishlist, if I can't buy it I just watch it online) and I quite liked it so I will be buying it in the future.

I totally loved the Trigun intro, but hey, each to their own.

Kanon (the 2006 remake) and Clannad are both on my buying list too, checked out the first Kanon ep because of the similarities to Air and I've decided to buy Clannad/After Story without even watching the first ep. I tend to watch most things subbed, but if a dub's good I will give it a shot.

The "m" word?

I too am curious about this "m" word, I'm probably "m"issing something obvious but still I live in hope that this "m" word is "m"agnificent, "m"arvellous and "m"ost importantly "m"agical.

.

Good but watch Clannad before the After story.
