Unfortunately I'm not one of those people who "needs no introduction" so here's mine. I'm Nick, 21 and from Glasgow, I only got into anime really within the last 6 months or so, but it has been a joyous 6 months so far. I'm almost ashamed to say now that for years I had rejected anime out of hand, my exposure to it had been very limited (Pokemon and the odd Dragonball Z episode when I was younger), and the only other thing I had to go on was the stereotypical images of giant mecha and weird porn, so for the most part anime was a strange creature that I dare not approach...However, I had always been somewhat curious.
Then came the day, about 14 months ago, that curiosity got the better of me. With some spare Microsoft points I decided to rent a couple films on my xbox, the last of which was Ghost in the Shell. It won't surprise many when I say that I was blown away by the film, the sheer beauty of it enchanted me, in particular the scene moving through the city with the Major and the haunting song in Japanese. Despite this I was still reluctant somewhat, unsure if I was ready, I decided to return to my only previous encounter with anime, which I had enjoyed, to see how it held up and to ease myself in.
I couldn't believe how good Pokemon actually was (specifically the Kanto stuff, though I hold no particular grudges against any of the regions/arcs it's this that I feel is the best with Hoenn also recieving much love). I carried on my journey becoming further (re)engrossed with Pokemon, including the stuff I had not seen before as a child (the majority of Johto and onwards) and before I knew it I was taking my first steps into the real stuff, tentative tiptoes into the world of Miyazaki via Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, and they spurred me on further to the point where it has become my favourite thing and also the reason as to why I'm writing such a long winded, but passionate, introduction on a forum specifically for discussing this wonderful art.
Although the subject title was short the content wasn't, so I'll apologise for taking up your time if you actually bothered to read all this and roundup with a list of some of my favourite anime: Pokemon, Azumanga Daioh, Air, Death Note, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell (movies 1/2 and S.A.C. 1st/2nd gig), Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Ninja Scroll, Elfen Leid, Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Paranoia Agent (I love the work of Satoshi Kon if it's not noticeable)
