Argh, I took so long to type this post that Arbalest lapped me.
Decided that as the thread had moved on, it deserved a new home in Random Chit-Chat. The original title remains so people can find it*.
To address other things, as a human being rather than with my mod hat on...
The site reviews anime which is legally available in the UK, because that's kind of the purpose. If you want to review something else without actively promoting illegal activities please, feel free to post a review of your own on the forums. Stuff which has been on TV is bound to get people talking since a lot of people might have casually seen it. Quite a few of AF17's threads, however much grief he gets for his (now vastly improving) posting style, have ended up generating a reasonable amount of discussion. Our official reviewers constantly generate reviews for new releases which can be commented on if a discussion is wanted. The triggers are there ready for the taking if people actually want to talk about anime.
I've also noticed that we have had some new posters these last few months who have discreetly fitted in with regular posts almost unnoticeably. Some people have faded out with real life or in search of greener pastures, but I don't think we're quite in graveyard territory yet.
Another forum thing which could be good is more simulwatches; there's no reason that only one has to run at a time or that only the previous pioneers can run them. The GITS one was great (I didn't participate as I don't like GITS but I still read it!) and I'm skipping the newest one as I don't want to R2J the selected show just for a forum thread, but they're a great way of actively getting people chatting about something.
Same with the podcast, really. If the existing one isn't enough, nothing is stopping other people posting their own fan podcasts. Like that chap with the Your Anime Sucks reviews, which tend to get a fair few appreciative comments whenever they're added.
I also disagree that anime itself isn't that interestingly lately! This will differ between people as everyone has different taste, but for me it is an exciting time to be a UK anime fan. With CR (and NicoNico!) acknowledging the UK exists and AoD launching to give us our very own platform, as well as much faster licensing than before, sub-only speed releases (with varying success) on DVD and our local companies actually talking to us from time to time, there seems to be a lot going on to make the hobby more prominent. We even got Layton before the US, and it sold fantastically too. Then there's stuff like the recent viewing figures for Akira on TV and movie showings across the country from time to time.
Not to mention there having been good news for importers with more foreign English-friendly licensors joining the fray to give us a more diverse range to choose from; NISA, Aniplex USA and Siren of Australia have really raised the stakes lately. Hit series such as Tiger & Bunny and Madoka Magica are out there with exciting new series on the horizon as well. I'm glad to be an anime fan in 2011. Heck, someone can feel free to post this and pick it apart to start a discussion if you want to make fun of my enthusiastic tone ^^;
Putting the mod hat back on temporarily to address a couple of other things:
Aion was banned because Aion was unable to respect the rules of the site. He had ample warning. I liked his better posts too, but he's not coming back any time soon.
CG still posts here. He's not around as often as he used to be but I'm sure if a civilised topic is made which he's interested in he'll give his thoughts as always.
I'm here multiple times, every day. I'm not always logged in. If I don't talk, it's because I'm not interested in the topic or because someone else covered any points I was going to make, but I'll always answer interesting things!
So, let's hear more on how Jayme and Spyro have been getting 'close'? :O
