Glee

Mini Mariah

Straw Hat Pirate
Anyone watching this?
I find that most people seem to be backing away slowly due to it having a bit of a 'High School Musical' feel, but personally I'm really loving it!
It's an up-lifter and it makes me smile :)

Everyone else's opinions?

Made this thread a while back and for the first thirteen I would go to my grave saying it isn't High School Musical but now I'm just not so sure anymore. They started filming this back 9, fully aware of what a sensation its become, and its gotten a bit stupid for it. They are singing too much. It's great for the iPod but I'm starting to doubt whether I care anymore. Why the frak was Olivia Newton-John there? I don't want that. Madonna's episode, whilst having a couple of good moments, also was mostly a failure. I'm a fairly big Gaga fan but not looking forward to her centric episode either.

I can't deny having Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth in it is a bad though. Cheno's latest ep was a bit messy, so I think the strongest one so far was the premiere of the back 9 - "Hell-O". Jonathan Groff actually played a decent part in that episode.

I had the Gleekness factor last year, then it slowly disappeared and I wanted to get it back for these new episodes and it just isn't doing anything for me. More Puckleberry just doesn't cut it. Having an episode titled 'Bad Reputation' and not doing Joan Jett was also a killer. That was the worst one since "Acafellas".

Best part of Glee now, Brittany/Santana getting more screentime (with great lines!).

I'm more than prepared to be blown away again though. As I am every week, therefore I'm immensely excited for next weeks Joss Whedon helmed Neil Patrick Harris episode - "Dream On". Yay.

My honest opinion?

I've been made to watch a few eps of this crap, and i hate it. EVERYDAY i have to listen to the stupid songs they decide to sing, because Heart radio jumps on any pop bandwagon and rides the living hell out of it until people get sick of it and turn over.

That, along witht he undeniable fact that its so similar to HSM, are the main reasons i hate it.

The thing that irks me more is that (some) people who watch Glee thinks that makes them a geek... THAT IS OUR WORD THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO USE IT! =P

Seriously though I fail to see how watching Glee would class you as a geek. It's pretty mainstream (I don't mean that in an offensive way but it's not really a "cult" show is it?)

You do know its a Gleek, right? Being a Gleek is the same as any other geeky fandom. You obsess about the characters, the writing, the writers, the actors, the songs - and there is such a thing as musical theatre geeks.

Also, Tachi, your just... wrong. There no two ways about it. The songs are okay, they are better when they have the emotional impact to back them up (which the new eps are lacking) but the show is so over-the-top, so witty, so dry. It makes you feel happy, obviously, but its a pretty great comedy soap satire thing. Try watching and fastforwarding the songs...

(Note: It's not a drama. Throwaway lines about lesbianism, waterboarding and sex positions make it a comedy -- not a drama.)

I am aware, but I don't think being part of a fandom is the same as being a geek personally. Where is the complete ostracisation from the rest of society? =P

I dunno, I'm an anime geek and I'm apart of the fandom. I'm apart of the fandom because I like anime. I'm a anime geek because I know stuff about anime. I'm a Gleek and I'm a part of the fandom. I'm apart of the fandom because I like Glee. I'm a Gleek because I know stuff about Glee.

It's more comparable to comic book readers, Trekkies or film geeks, though.

FYI, the term did exist pre-show. For actual Glee clubs. FOX being clever picked up on it and some of the original commercials were based around an "I'm a Gleek/I'm a Geek theme".

Hmm, you need to understand that i work in an office, i have to put up with Heart radio for 7.5hours a day, (my ipod is always in an ear for sanities sake) and i HATE pop. Heart plays songs from Glee along with airy fairy, girly songs. That just doesn't bode well with me by nature.
Now if they sung a frank sinatra song and i mean REALLY sung it, pulling out all the stops and sounded like michael buble....then i might care.

To watch (as i've said, i've had to endure it whilst at home as my sister enjoys it) i'll give credit where its due, its okay. i don't hate the show....but the songs are pissing me off because their now being rammed into ears all over the place. play decent songs from decent artists and i might give it a chance.

Till then, in my opinion its crap.

I have no idea what the songs are like without the visual imagery, so, erm... I guess that sucks. I never understand why people listen to a radio station with adverts all day. Radio 1, although play way too much ****, is easier on the ears than endlessly repeated commercials. As for the Bublé/Sinatra stuff, give it time. It will happen. They've done some Bacharach - don't let the songs fool you into thinking that's all its about though. It's like 'Election: The TV Series' when its not singing.

Oh and, JOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
