General Cartoons Thread

I really REALLY got my self addicted on TMNT and Gravity Falls.

In Fact, since MLP, there's been a real upswing in cartoons (the likes of Avatar, W.I.T.C.H et all, at the time representing blips in the radar of the see of drech that populated the kids section), something I thought would never recover after the eternal sadness that is the likes of Johnny Test.

A friend of mine keeps on telling me to try out Gravity Falls. I said I would...at some point. She's only just got me watching Supernatural, so it might take a while xD

I watched the first episode of Gravity Falls. I enjoyed it quite a bit, it was very funny and quite smart. Plus it has Kristen Schaal in it which is always a bonus.

Guess what I've been watching.

I wonder if a Western animation renaissance may indeed be upon us. MLP, Adventure time and Gravity Falls are far more entertaining and amusing to me than any episode of the current crop of "adult" animations (which fall pretty flat now they can't get laughs off taboo breaking because their target audience is so utterly desensitized to everything - or is that just me?) and the sun-bleached bones of a dead horse being whipped for all it's worth that is zombie Simpsons. What a difference a little originality, some genuinely well written vocal and visual comedy and a plot makes, eh?

You're not alone in that regard *Looks at Brickleberry Reviews*

Hmm. Just as "random humour" has become twisted into "random = funny" in the minds of a lot of comedy writers (especially in the US) it feels like the same thing has happened with "shock humour" and "shocking = humour". And the audience laugh (like the morons most of them are) at anything which is presented to them as comedy in a kind of baffling Emperor's New Clothes scenario.

Can you suggest some good movies released in the last 10 years? Thanks.
Good Western animated films from the decade in which CGI brutally murdered traditional animation at the box office? That's borderline trolling, Teo. :p

Damn, at the end my troll nature has been uncovered!

Seriously, there seem to be some underground gems. Waltz with Bashir is a really good movie (although a bit hard to digest). I've been suggested Persepolis, The Triplets of Belleville, A Cat in Paris and The Illusionist, but I still haven't bought them. I suppose there are various more... problem is getting to know their existence.

I've seen Waltz with Bashir and Persepolis, at around the same time actually. Good films. I thought they made interesting companion pieces in the way they showed the formative experiences of an Iranian and an Israeli - In addition being unique personal stories, both also seemed to me very much an attempt to understand their respective societies and come to terms with how they felt about being part of them (though interestingly it's one of the few times I've noticed myself having a certain amount of gender bias, finding it easier to understand and sympathise with Ari than Marjane).

I heartily concur, though I will also have to mention Chowder as being quite prime before such shows like MLP and Gravity Falls bringing out such an array of fans

ep for anyone interested:

Also noted Brickleberry. Good God! It's the animation of Dan vs with the talent of an inexperienced Seth Macfarlane (not that Seth has experience)

Wait, I thought Dan Vs. was good. Is there something I'm missing here?

I didn't say it was bad, I just was comparing how the animation flows. It's like you can distinctly tell it's cheap flash animation, but it doesn't matter so much in Dan Vs. as to the viewer it's part of it's characteristic charm.

I've decided to rewatch Avatar: The Last Airbender again (Last time I watched it, I was halfway between season 2) and I'm remembering why I loved it. Also I wish we did a livestream or something sometime in the future.

Now that I've finished ATLA, I've went off and decided to watch The Legend of Korra now and I must say it's somehow tops it's predecessor in more ways than one. Yes, even in Shipper Trolling.

This is the most amazing news

Time Warner Licenses Animated Shows And ‘Dallas’ To Netflix

This is the second licensing deal the entertainment giant has cut with Netflix over the last week. In the latest one, beginning on March 30 the streaming service lands all past seasons of Cartoon Network‘s Adventure Time, Ben 10, Regular Show, and Johnny Bravo, as well as Warner Bros Animation’s Green Lantern. It also will have Adult Swim shows Robot Chicken and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sony Pictures Television’s The Boondocks and Warner Bros Television’s Studio 2.0′s Childrens Hospital. Subscribers have to wait a year, to January 2014, before Netflix begins its exclusive streaming run of the first two seasons of TNT’s Dallas. The companies didn’t disclose financial terms.

The addition of children’s shows to Time Warner‘s deal with Netflix may revive the debate over whether the streaming service is cutting into ratings for ad-supported kids shows on TV. That was a big concern last year when ratings dropped at Nickelodeon after many of its shows appeared on Netflix.

Granted, this is US only at the moment (Meaning work-arounds for the rest of us), but it's quite exiting news considering the considerable amount of Nick shows and Disney starting their Film contract at around 2016.

Well was just watching the second season of "Archer" and came across this scene.
Poor Kriegers

Thank you Fox, I was getting bored with all the furry, also bonus points if you can get the second reference.
