General anime thoughts/discussion thread.

Wow. I just happened to be perusing my Anime Purchase Spreadsheet I've maintained since the very first anime media I bought back in 2011 - the original Bandai Blu-ray release of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. After taking inventory, it turns out the Queen Millenia Blu-ray from Sentai, which was my most recent order I made on August 30th, was my 50th anime Blu-ray purchase in 2025. This is actually one of my lightest yearly efforts in collecting so far, as I'm on track for buying only 75 titles this year. Since I started my actual anime collecting in March of 2013, I've purchased anywhere between 100-200 anime Blu-rays per year.

And, after tallying up my entire spreadsheet, the current body count for the total number of anime Blu-ray and DVDs in my collection now stands at 1887, so I'm just 113 titles shy of 2000, which I could possibly reach before the end of next year. I don't even want to know or think about the total cost of the anime I have purchased over these past 12 + years! 😵

It's interesting how the Haikyu movie is getting released in this country when it seems only the first season of 4 got released in the UK.

Although that's presuming you needed to have watched the TV series to watch the movie(s) if they are a sequel.

So with Trigun Stargaze coming along at some point, I thought I'd look at some of the promotional art and see if I could soften my heart towards it. I want to feel joy at the fact my favourite anime franchise has a second lease of life, and I hear Vash has his spikey hair back and even more importantly Milly is back too! But then when I actually look at these new incarnations of Trigun's amazing original cast I just feel empty and sad. Why, why is studio Orange so hell bent on taking such cool charming characters and melting them down to boring bland normies with only trace elements of what made them great. To reintroduce Milly as a generic sexy anime babe is UNFORGIVABLE. Give Milly her long coat and cloak back you cowards! Give Wolfwood his dignity back and give him a pair of socks!

Sorry to any Stampede fans on here, I don't want to do down the show and be a cantankerous old coot, and bear in mind I never watched more than 2 episodes! I just needed to vent. And I just find it odd that when 90s nostalgia (which is seemingly felt even more keenly by the young who missed it first time around) is at an all time high they've chosen to strip all the old school cool off of Trigun's bones and have thus made the show look more dated somehow.

Overall, I remember being puzzled about what exactly they were trying to achieve with Stampede. It seemed like they’d put a huge amount of effort into giving the characters expressive faces (something so often missing from CG anime) in a way that would have fitted a comedy series really well, then just made this near humourless downer of a show by pushing past any funny parts as quickly as possible.

I’ll probably end up watching Stargaze anyway, but I dunno, I miss Trigun being fun.

Seems like CEX is losing the plot with pricing of some titles, £25 for 12 episodes. When you can buy it new from Amazon for less. Although no doubt in 6 months time those titles will be on offer for £12 as they try and reduce the cash tied up in stock.

And that's before the usual Winterval related sales.

Was busy hunting blu-ray's of stuff I watched and enjoyed on stream. Has me wondering what the decision making publishers is when it comes to what they license acquire for psychical release, understand not everything you going to watch is going to be widely loved. But stuff like Tsukimichi moonlit fantasy seems to be a popular enough for a season 3 as it's was pretty much confirmed as season 2 ended.

Yet here we are still waiting for a Eng Dub/Sub western release. Not interested in Japanese imports was just curious and wondering what other people are waiting around for?

I've been waiting on a UK release of
Skeleton Knight in Another World.

Already watched it and would love a physical copy. Just my thing, OPed MC action and not serious.

Instead we got a Vending machine.

Edit This song puts me in a right good mood.
And Birdie Wing. Great show and I don't like golf.

Well, with crappyroll only dubbing about 1/4 of the series they license and releasing 3 or 4 titles on disc every month it's no wonder certain so called pirate sites are having a field day.
They can't dub and release everything, they are not made of money.

And besides don't some people prefer watching the show in Japanese with English subtitles?

You do realize this is Crunchyroll we're talking about? The Sony-owned Crunchyroll that loves to gobble up other companies in pursuit of dominance in the anime market? I don't think it's asking too much of them to dub more shows especially as (however much some people may love to disagree) most viewers watch anime dubbed. Bringing up people that prefer subs is just kinda odd in general as they're not the one's getting sidelined here. They already have their subs.

If you want to stream anime in the original language with subtitles then that's easy to get. If you want to watch it on a physical release or with a professional quality foreign language dub then you have to rely on the distributor. Distributors who use the promise of dubbing things as a selling point for their subscription models.

I refuse to get into the not so great dub vs, sub debate although I do prefer to listen to my anime rather than read it. But dubbing should be something that's not optional at extra cost for crappyroll for the viewers.
