These types of games aren't really that deep usually, they have a story and things but they can never end it, so it's more about the content along the way and the events/new chapters and things that get added over time. For HSR we are between patches and the next major update so there isn't really anything else to discuss at this time.
Ah, that makes sense. I wasn't thinking of it in terms of update cycles.
This is of course a general gacha thread and if discussing things like pulls or character priorities for HSR bothers people, we could just make an HSR thread for the people that play it.
I don't think that's necessary. I pretty much just jumped in at page 39 of an ongoing thread to see if anyone was playing the one game I've tried.
Infinity Nikki - how does the gacha work? do you need to summon or is it just cosmetics? from what I can tell it looks like more outfit based than anything but I've not played it so don't want to assert that without knowing.
I'm only several hours into Infinity Nikki, so I'm not certain if there's a gacha-fuelled paywall lurking later on. While the gacha is all for clothes for the main character, it's not purely cosmetic. Some outfits have abilities that are used to gather resources for making more clothes. A few of those unlock via the main story early on, but I'm not certain if the gathering abilites obtainable via gacha are exclusive or just early unlocks for things the main story will get to later.
Aside from that, there are fashion battles where you need to assemble an outfit that meets certain criteria. Every piece of clothing has a score based on several stats, so the more clothes you have, the more chance you have of building a high-scoring outfit with the right qualities. The fashion battles aren't mandatory parts of the main story yet, but I do wonder if that will become a factor later on that pushes players towards unlocking more clothes through the gacha system.
The gacha is heavily promoted in the in-game menus, but I don't feel like the mechanics of the game are pushing me towards paying yet. It's only been out a few weeks though, so this could still be the honeymoon period.
As for the game itself, it's a lot of fun so far. Momo is an entertaining companion with a great English voice performance. The world encourages exploration and there's lots to do. The biggest highlight is probably the platforming sections and overall world design. I believe the director of Breath of the Wild is working on the game, and you can really feel that Nintendo energy in places.
It's still pretty glitchy in places. I fell through the ground while riding around on a bike at one point, and there was one time where the cute animal sidekick's eyes disappeared, which was creepy. I haven't run into any quest bugs yet though, so it certainly seems to be in a playable state so far.
