Reading the FUNimation-blog, it seems that they plan to expand in other territories or languages.
In the early DVD-era ADV expanded to UK and Germany (and sublicensed some stuff in other european countries) and about 2 or 3 years ago Sentai's Anime Network (now HiDive) introduced subs in latin spanish and brazilian. Recently HiDive added German and French languages for select titles too... (but failed to aquire users in continental europe)
 
Non-English foreign language dubs is something CR has been doing more over the past year though they've stayed away from streaming in English audio (at least for new shows).

If Funimation wants to move in on those markets then there's little reason for CR to want to work with an even more direct competitor. Which, again, is why I think they should consider commissioning English dubs to stream themselves.
 
I do worry that this will limit Funimations current output in the short term. So many of Funimations Simuldubs have been for CR shows. Now of course potentially CR could sort out simuldubs for themselves if need be but Funimation have been really reliable in this case. I guess Sony's clout should help get shows licensed that maybe were more difficult in the past. Don't know really how this is all going to work out but as someone who enjoys dubs just as much as subs I really hope this doesn't affect the current system we have too much.
 
I think as it looks like Sentai will be going with CR they do their dubcasts so it’s possible it won’t be affected much for CR shows. It will be harder for some of the shows that are getting second seasons next year like MP100 as that has a Bang Zoom dub from cr

Anyway I've stopped my Funimation subscription for now. May pick it up some time during the Winter if they get some decent shows. If not it'll have to be in time for the Spring season, unless AoT is still available on Crunchyroll because technically it's still the 3rd season?
 
Yeah Sentai stuff is currently on HIDIVE but with that going on VRV, I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing subbed Sentai titles back on CR and never know Sentai could get Food Wars s3
 
We still don't know if the relationship between CR and Sentai goes as deep as it did with Funikation. The former is smaller with no where near the number of big popular licenses though CR could help them ther

Plus I don't know if Sentai van match the quantity or quality of Funimation. Not that the don't have good people she I think their dub quality has been on the up in .recent time but I think Funimation has it over them. The two also compete for the dame talent pool so I'm not sure if Sentai's position is going to change anytime soon.

If CR is willing to invest in original animation then why not dubs? I'd say that's less risky. They could even consider their own studio or buying an existing one if they're really confident. I k ow there's a recent CR tweet stating they want to ensure their shows still have English voice tracks.
 
CR do fund their own dubs... even with FUNi they did Bungo, Mob Psycho, Re:Zero were all Union dubs so all not FUNi In house produced. So yes if CR kept using union dubs and stop the Texas loop hole I would be most happy with that.
 
Have they announced when Funimation's content is being pulled from Crunchy yet? I was wondering if it's worth starting a series if it's gonna get took down in a few days or something.
 
I've got five items on my Crunchyroll queue that I've not watched yet. I'm not gonna get through those in a week....I might leave it and see what happens :confused:

I was subscribed to it when it first came out a few years ago, but dropped it for Hidive. Does the FunimationNow site actually work these days? It was just buffering for ages on both the desktop site and the PS4 app (but the android one was okay strangely).
 
The PS4 app has been a lot better recently, but still not as good as Crunchyroll has been, which isn't always perfect itself.

Crunchyroll are going to have to improve their app because the videos don't have a language/subtitle select option on them like Funimation (and Netflix and HiDive IIRC), so you can't switch on the fly you have to back out to the videos page for the title and scroll through to the next batch of videos as there's no selection option on the shows page either (something else Funimation does).

Finally got round to working out what I've lost from my Crunchyroll list:
Drifters, SHIMONETA, Yu Yu Hakusho, Prince of Stride and Welcome to the NHK (I sort of knew these were going as they were on my FUNi queue and I had added them to Crunchyroll when I was leaving which was just before the news). NHK has videos that are subscribers only on FUNi.
Also with subs only videos is Hyouka.
Seiyu's Life, 3 Leaves 3 Colors and Jormungand are all free.
Nichijou is on FUNi, but there's only one video for some reason!
Gone completely Ping Pong and the Haruhi-chan spinoff.
