Funimation set to announce 10 new licenses in December

You're absolutely correct: most people have inferior views that aren't worth hearing.

You're right...

... And yours is one of them.

:p

Havn't seen Ikki and have no intention of doing.

However, not everyone likes/dislikes the same things.

There's a sequel to Ikkitousen iirc (dragon destiny or something)

There's a third series "Great Guardians (iirc)" as well. Ikki Tousen seems to be a series with very high popularity in fanservice circles (check out the R2J forum on AoD and they are crazy about it).

Although I'm incredibly pissed off that Funimation ruined a chance to bring out an incredible previously unreleased and awesome anime, it's as well very good business sense on Funimations part to release something like Ikki Tousen.

Here's hoping the other 9 licenses will be good'ns. And if the hints come true (Ikki Tousen already came true) then we're in for a treat...

I don't have the problems other fellow forum members have. Maybe I just accepted the lube + kleenex atitude, but true is that for some weird reason, the shows with really good martial art combats are full of fanservices. Ikkitousen, Tenjo tenge, Airmaster to name a few.
I take that all martial art fans must be perverts? or maybe most are like me that don't care for the fanservice and then adding fan services attracts two different crowds to it?

I do hope they get the other series out as well (irc?) =)

I'm slightly disturbed by people's implications that the only reason for watching anything even slightly titttilating is for masturbatory reasons. One would imagine they would find themselves being thrown out of the cinema when they went to watch Striptease, Showgirls or... well every other advert from the last 20 years.

FWIW, I rate Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny higher than Tenjho Tenge, and that higher than the original Ikkitousen series. They're all mindless sex & action shows - which describes about 90% of Hollywood output, so shows there's a large market for that kind of stuff. Not everything needs to be high brow (and in fact, high brow stuff tends to be vastly commercially inferior to lowest common denominator stuff, something very important in the current economic climate.)

But Ikkitosen is only good for Wank material, and not good wank maerial at that.

And it had it's chance with season one (Hell, the first five minutes of Season one, actauly) i'm not going to truge though Dragon Destiny in the vain hope that fanservice and story have been crafted to make something more than it's sum of it's parts.

I meen where's AirMaster? That's a show that had fanservice up the bum and it was enjoyable.

Oh that's right, Toei has it and Toei hates me and my freedoms.

Random as it may be, I'll just add my voice of support for a proper Air Master release. Any fighting show which inspires that level of hatred on MAL must be worth seeing. And yes, thanks to Toei not only can you not buy it anymore, but you can't get the fansubs either.

I wonder if ADV really is going under then? If they're loosing Last Exile and such they must be in a bad state.

That aside I'm glad to see Gankutsuou is getting a release since it sounds like one to definitely check out. Aside from that Soul Eater may be worth a look too, depending on how the rest of the series turns out.

Again, if you think the only purpose of titilation is for masturbation, that says more about you than it does about the material. It's perfectly possible for something to be "not very good" or "not very good in my opinion" without meaning it's "wank material" just because it has a few panty shots. I don't think the Daily Star's a very good newspaper, but that doesn't make it wank material just because theres a pair of tits on one page a day.

Some of us just enjoy Ikkitousen as mindless entertainment and not just wannabe porn. It's a dumb series but I don't see why it's so reviled when other series in the same fan service vein get through without the backlash. I like Gankutsuou and Le Chevalier D'Eon and such most of all, but sometimes I just enjoy seeing girls hit one another.

Come to think of it, as chaos mentioned the correlation between fighting series and parades of softcore service is difficult to ignore. I blame all the fighting games turned anime. Shiranui Mai, I'm looking at you.

In the US it was Geneon who did Last Exile, not ADV, so it had gone out of circulation. I'm not sure about the UK status of the titles in its weird position of having been sublicensed for us. Though I otherwise agree with your comment in a more general sense - ADV has hardly anything worthwhile on its books these days (literally nothing I want) and I'd quite like to see them come back from the dead and reclaim their position as a solid licensor in the new year.

ADV have Clannad, some schlocky live action films, and lots and lots of reissues. Their fate is hanging in the balance, but they're still alive.

As for fighting series, to me they're the anime equivalent of wrestling. Campy, stupid, and deeply homoerotic :D

I blame ADV's downfall of the fact they said lots af ambiguous things about Dirty Pair TV (does anyone know to this day if they ever actually had the rights to it?) and never went anywhere with it. That's karma for ya. A shame really as their dub voices for Kei & Yuri were spot on IMO.

I echo fabloony's feeling about fighting shows. Perhaps I'm not manly enough to enjoy muscular men beating the **** out of each other. Women, however... different story. ;)

That's actually a really good comparison. You just missed out soap opera, impractical dress sense and random fireworks.

Talking of Gankutsuou, here's a great fan made trailer for those interested in it:

Well, Ikki Tousen had potential to be more, I admit. Then Shiozaki (not to smeer his artistic skill) decided fanservice was more important than the story. Yeah.... It's nice, but... Trashy too when you blink on the radar 50 times an episode.

Dragon Destiny wasn't too bad I'd say, in fact it was a step-up to the series. Then it went tit's up (no pun...) in Great Guardian.
That's why I prefer the manga. Even though you get as much ecchiness in it too, you get more of a desciption behind the story. Much more value for money.

Well the next show is Gad Guard. Whoop di do.

I know what I'm hoping for on that list but I know it's not going to be there.

It's another 'second tier' license, really. I don't really know why an anime publisher would go back and say, 'Give me Gad Guard'. Just a bit random.

Dare I even attempt to understand why a series that ADV gave away for £1 per volume, with Vol. 6 & 7 on one DVD, is being relicensed in America? It has awful reviews and I've never even seen it mentioned on anime forums. I can understand Battle Vixens (fan service) and Vandread (pretty good series) being relicensed, but Gad Guard? Only an idiot would do it.

It's that sort of series that's hard to comment on because it's so underwhelming in every possible respect. I bought the first volume second hand for 50p and thought I got a bargain only to find out I wasted 50p.

The awful OP theme, that was also used for the trailers, put me off trying it - it sounded more like the sort of music I'd hear in an American flick from the 50's. I'll probably never even put any of my £6 collection near a DVD player.
