Its rumoured to get the worse hence why it was pulled. Because again nothing could stop some hentai licensor licensing it, and its not like I can watch hentai easily on CR/FUNi, so I don't see why its an issue.
Also Valkyrie was banned by obscenity laws brought in by the most the right wing government of the post war era the 80s

Actually VDM was banned by the BBFC they didn’t want to give it a classification as it involved minors. Don’t know what you’re talking about this is stuff in the past 2 or 3 years

"but that the scenes showing the children engaged in sexual activity, or otherwise being sexualised, are in violation of the 'harm' provisions of the Video Recordings Act 1984"

They’ve been far more lenient than that at least since 2010, maybe earlier, but as they are a British board, they still hit hard on things involving minors, it may be just that I’m older just noticing that, but it’s a bit surprising that the law is that old. Pretty much the only one they’ve stuck to since then though

I’m kind of seeing a rule of thumb with it though, if it’s the kind of stuff that’d be shown late at night in the UK, maybe it gets top classification, if it’s not quite in line with what we’d show late, then it doesn't get rated

would someone show something like monmasume on British television provided an appropriate time slot? I would think absolutely

would we show Interspecies Reviewers on telly at all? By the sounds of it, and by the sounds of the series getting increasingly sexual, I don’t think so

Episode 4 featured meat imprinted with genitalia and a Frankfurter cooked inside a vagina which is probably why it got pulled.

I am really curious about this now as seeing a show dropped mid-run in Japan is unusual. How far did it push things compared to other shows?!

TV channels in Japan have dropped a few shows in the past couple of years but it's pretty rare to see (I think Hybrid x Heart was the last one). AT-X I believe has exclusive rights to the uncensored version so I suspect they'll keep it going regardless of the insanity that studio Passione has done to the anime adaptation.

To my knowledge, Valkyrie Drive Mermaid was not refused a classification (i.e. banned). The BBFC said they would allow a release on the condition that select scenes were cut due to the main character being a minor. Because of the required cuts, Funimation UK backed off from releasing it.

That's not how the bbfc works if someone doesn't comply with with the cuts the bbfc demand then a title will not get a rateing so Valkyrie drive mermaid was refused a classification so it was banned.

Interspecies Reviewers down to 7.60, I thought those ratings were legit
Some were duplicates as opposed to bots like Chihayafuru and a load were proper accounts. Reading the post the mods put up it sounded like every 10 score since the first video asking for it to be given 10s went up has been disregarded, but might be reinstated if the account goes back to scoring it properly. Which means there might be a few genuine 10s being disregarded at the moment! As funny as it was I never bothered getting involved, although I did score Chihayafuru 3 a 10 to counterbalance the bots and it may well stay as the season has been great.

For me I’ve never get them allowing rankings priors to the show ending as how can rank something that hasn’t ended, a lot of shows are ruined by the end game like Re:Creators comes to mind.

I suppose it's good for people who want to pick and choose from a season to look at the scores and jump in halfway through or something. The scores are weighted so the true score doesn't show till it's marked as complete.
I always rate at the end though.

Yeah I never rate airing shows myself but Id be a bit lost on what's worth watching if none of them had scores.

What Normanic Grav said was entirely correct.
I don’t think anyone was really wrong, it’s just a question of terminology. Since the BBFC demanded cuts even at an 18 rating, they did prevent it from being released in it’s uncut form which is essentially the same as banning it. Whether you want to call that banning or “refused a classification” it boils down to the same thing, since it means it can’t legally be sold in the UK. A cut version wouldn’t have been banned, but they chose (probably wisely) not to go down that route.

You couldn’t use american authoring for one.
And why wouldn’t anyone import if they could.
And thirdly seeing how critically acclaimed FUNi shows did (Yurikuma) I cant imagine how poorly this would have done even if Uncut.

Exactly. The ability to import home media (totally legally as far as I understand, since if it's not being displayed in a physical UK retail premises it doesn't require a BBFC rating to be sold - I wonder if that means if a distributor went to online only sales they wouldn't have to even get their products rated? Something to consider) is yet another thing that makes the BBFC a total irrelevance in today's world. That and, y'know, a kid can simply use google and get immediate access to hardcore porn. But clearly making sure adults can't watch uncut Valkyrie Drive Mermaid or Paranoia Agent is much more important to public morals.

It would depend on why the material was cut / refused classification. If it were due to the Obscene Publications Act or Protection of Children Act, then it would be illegal to purchase/import/own the material as I understand it.

In the case of Valkyrie Drive Mermaid, it was in violation of the "harms" provision of the Video Recordings Act 1984, however, it was not in violation of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (I've read the 204th BBFC Board of Classification Meeting to see which act it was due to).
