Free UK Available Streaming Anime & Anime on TV

In semi-related news, US Netflix's license to stream a bunch of Funi shows ran out at the start of April, and they don't seem to have them back yet. I wasn't particularly planning to watch any of them, but it was nice to have the option.

Another showing of Ponyo on Film4, this time at 15.10 on 28th July. Then again on 1st August at 16.45. Both are sub versions.

Then on 2nd August Film4 are showing Ocean Waves at 11.00 (sub too).

Funimation have put up dubs of some of their shows on Hulu until around late October [deleted].

This is an exceptionally grey area, not to mention a really dumb situation which should never exist in the first place in a civilised global economy, but in the most strict interpretation of the facts I think circumventing streaming region locks goes against the spirit of ad-based streaming. The companies can't make any money showing ads abroad (which is why they only pay to license things for their own territory), so it's effectively a situation where we are using their bandwidth for free to stream things we shouldn't have access to without giving them any revenue, and simultaneously we'd be providing viewing figures which suggest their broken model isn't broken. So I think we should avoid talking about how to circumvent these things, and instead wait for the companies involved to stop being foolish.

Therefore, while I won't remove the comments, I have removed the link to the instructions. I think it's too murky a grey area for us to support.

I think you're perfectly within your rights and probably sensible to remove the link Rui, but the thing I always think about advertising revenue is this: the companies pay to show those ads whether anyone buys their products or not. It's a gamble for them anyway. Should I not watch commercial television in the UK if the advertising never drives me to buy anything? And who's to say I won't be so taken with a product I see advertised while using a proxy that I don't fly to the USA and buy the advertised product?

If I take my mod hat off for a moment, I completely agree. Ads just annoy me most of the time, which is why I subscribe to sites like CR to banish the wretched things and stop being told about mobile phones/cars/cleaning products, yet Japanese streams often block foreigners when I find their (relevant, anime-related) ads pretty interesting most of the time and often buy the items. The entire business model is so fantastically stupid that it almost causes me actual physical pain to think about it :(

Ah, sorry then. Did not know that link was against the rules.

I don't know if this is quite the place for this, but Nozomi's YouTube streams are often available to the UK. They often put up full series for a limited amount of time. I think the entire first season of Junjou Romantica is up at the moment, and I've watched the entirety of Antique Bakery, Victorian Romance Emma, the first 2 seasons of Maria-sama ga Miteru, and almost the first 2 seasons of Aria on there.
