Final Fantasy X

The only good thing about Final Fantasy X is that I can remember why I dislike it, whereas everything since has just been forgettably insignificant.

Basically, take everything everyone in this thread said they love about this game and put a negative statement in front of it. Seriously, I find much of this thread unfathomable. People liked the turn-based, two-dimensional plane, bugged to hell and back water-polo simulator? You can seriously overlook the terrible voice acting (confounded 10,000 over by even worse implementation) and the go-nowhere story with its twist so utterly stupid that it confounds its own cliche?
"You killed my Father!"
"No Tidus: I AM your father. And a whale. And both of us were magic fairy dreams to begin with"

... and there's the little stuff. Like the way pointless, lengthy location history is dispensed by a single, very, very annoying tourist character. Or how the game's best items are kept from you if you're not prepared to jump through the least imaginative mini-games ever seen in an RPG (Jumped 200 Lighting Bolts? Congratulations, you'll never be called up for Jury duty).

But this is an argument as old as the forum. I think it's a little more widely accepted that Final Fantasy 10 was at best, just another Final Fantasy game. But whatever. It's your prancy Jesus-child dance funeral.

Kupocake, you have a few points there, I remember the cringeworthy call of 'Welcome to Oaka's!' and it was tough as hell. But to say FFX was a step up from IX in that it introduced voiceovers to fairly realistic graphics, I was thrilled with that, I remember wishing they'd remake VIII in that style, it's what that game should have been like^^

Yep and I remember the cleavage indeed, awesome outfit that character had - the Moogle I don't know, I wonder how it feels to have a Mog running about under your dress.

Did it nag anyone else as they played XIII that they were really playing X-3?

Even the roman numerals admit it... X + III.

Crystarium = Dumbed down Sphere Grid. Both were linear and had predictable (and similar) plot twists. Not to mention the concept of faith was evident in both.

I thought X started out well, loved the idea that it was going to be about religious zeal, but it soon fell flat on its face.

A shame as it had a lot of potential...

...Surely you realise that that is just how roman numerals work? Surely you are just being sarcastic or something, because what you are suggesting there is absolutely ridiculous and has no substance on which to base it. The Final Fantasy games are stand-alone, barring 10-2, and of course the links between 12 and Tactics.

Btw, did it nag you as you played VIII that you were really playing V-3?

I thought that was obvious. He did explain why FFXIII reminded him of FFX, though I doubt he's suggesting that it's an actual sequel.

Not having played XIII myself--it's the only entry into the franchise since VII in which I can't muster the faintest interest--I can't personally comment on the plot and gameplay similarities (or not).

FFX was great, incidentally, laughing scene and the thoroughly awful Blitzball aside.

the problem with x-2 is the characters and the theme of the game just aren't final fantasy. and all the girl power things start to grate really quickly

that's probably why i didn't like it either, the whole girl power thing, it's very Sailor Moon though, but not in a good way

We have that too here, but we're under the NDA, so we can't discuss anything about it on here. Mind you, we have to be able to download it first, it goes bloody slow.
