Favourite opening/ending sequences

Hey everyone,

I'm curious to know what everyone's favorite anime openings are! Anime openings often set the tone for the series and can be incredibly memorable. Whether it's the music, the visuals, or just the overall vibe, there are some openings that we just can't skip.

Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) - "Shinzou wo Sasageyo" by Linked Horizon
This opening is iconic and always gets me pumped up. The visuals are epic, and the song perfectly captures the intensity of the series.
  2. Naruto Shippuden - "Blue Bird" by Ikimono Gakari
A classic that never gets old. The combination of the upbeat tune and nostalgic visuals makes this one of my top picks.
  3. My Hero Academia - "The Day" by Porno Graffitti
The first opening of My Hero Academia is so energizing and really sets the stage for the series. It always gives me chills!
  4. Demon Slayer - "Gurenge" by LiSA
LiSA's powerful vocals and the stunning animation make this opening unforgettable.

What are your favorite anime openings? I'd love to hear your thoughts and maybe discover some new ones!

Looking forward to your replies!

Cheers,Shamil

There are definitely many, many, many more I could mention but these are a good number of standout openings I enjoy a lot.

I do watch a lot of top openings videos on YouTube as well which is where I discover a lot of openings as some of these I'm still yet to see the series for... though nowadays most of the videos all include the same songs so I've been digging deeper.

In fact, I don't care too much about an opening statement. What I prefer is a good opening theme song that can completely attract me, such as Sincerely from the Violet Evergarden. That's a moved song.

Uh, not to be a killjoy or anything but why is there a duplicate of an on-topic thread about anime in the "off topic" forum?

Edit: Since all is now right with the world I might as well add a couple I've recently been enjoying, I've liked nearly all the songs from Higurashi and the music/video choreography has been uniformly excellent (though the Kai and Rei EDs were pretty forgettable, those got skipped) but I think these two are my favourites so far.

Oooh I'm loving the revival of this thread - had been thinking about it recently as I adore a good opening or ending. I'm going to take my time going through all the new lists here and come back with my favourites (too many to narrow down and pick from heh). Thanks for posting

Some great suggestions posted by others, here are some of mine that I can recall:

Monogatari off season - both the eds are just genius with the fantastic Yoasobi track and I've just linked the music video WiFi covers both( could put lots more from Monogatari here heh)

Freiren - again both the eds with the Millet track are excellent, though they did take time to grow on me as I watched the show (the second one in particular is heartbreakingly beautiful)

Nier Automata - I love most things Aimer does for anime ever since the Fate UBW series and her Escalate track for the op in part 1 is great

Jujitsu Kaisen part 2 ed is very good with the gorgeous More Than Words by Hitsujibungaku

Kageki shojo ed - I love how all the characters shadows are highlighted in turn by stars, which they are; also varies slightly depending on your characters focused on the episodes

FLCL Alternative ed

Tatami Galaxy ed (dorobo neko is by far the most tragically funny Japanese term I have learnt from anime)
https://youtu.be/-IcFDwygw-o?si=4fLRr_CKDf4q6wFR

To your eternity season 1 op with Pink Blood by Hikaru Utada(the ed has a great instrumental track)
https://youtu.be/2RrkFCw0t90?si=8c9qLBXn1JosD6zM

Vinland Saga season 1 part 1 ed Torches by Aimer
https://youtu.be/1cYE0Bm5VKI?si=ENX-yoJUGrS_CPPL

From the new world part 1 ed
https://youtu.be/mz1ypuGJ3VM?si=dLQf9vI5I472HX_l

Angel beats ed (I love how this ed varies as the series goes on and characters change)
https://youtu.be/_d8lv6YLuGc?si=X8ThnvJseE-_7roJ

The part 1 op and part 2 ed of Shiki with Buck-Tick tracks
https://youtu.be/QHPfAB3eDGY?si=Z7izqbRoDrjllP-R

https://youtu.be/4a9v_ZgJnpM?si=EL-p2ehHrb4gSbAu

Tokyo Ghoul season 1's op gets a lot of love but I love the ed which has a great track and Ishida beautiful artwork
https://youtu.be/kSkSvK6Zx_I?si=7JslGK1L3b14yExS

An absolute classic banger from the Cowboy Bebop ed
https://youtu.be/Ru_H5PiyfSA?si=Uoer8XyNamGEQt9R

And my favourite: the after rain ed with Aimee's ref:rain that matches the theme of the anime perfectly for me

I'll mention some notable movie credits tracks but leaves the links out:

Hikari disco by Capsule from the Knights of Sidonia movie

Goodnight by Hikaru Utada from Penguin Highway

Made in Abyss Dawn of the Deep Soul - Forever Lost by Myth&Roid

The case of Hana & Alice credits

And my absolute fave: girls, dance, staircase from Liz & the Bluebird (have to relink a video aisle put together for this one which is just lovely)

Here's hoping I've actually gotten the links right here
