Defective or Disappointing UK Anime Discs

Including styling and signs displayed concurrently to dialogue? That would be a first for Com'on Screen... or they did not author the disc, contrary to what the french credits claims.
Another interesting thing to note, according to Normanic Grav's blog is that the English subtitles are not locked during playback, but the French subtitles are. Normally, with Com'on Screen authored discs, the subtitles would be locked regardless of language settings, if I'm correct.

Then is it also the case for Bleach: Thousand Year Blood Wars? That's another shared author and the french subtitles are all messed up and lacks all signs.

At least Bleach TWBW has French subs - not like the 279,99 € Macross Plus Edition sold by Anime Ltd France, for which the French subs are completely missing (and recently they even updated the product description instead of fixing that issue)

Well, that's some really dishonest sales practices at best, not really a defect. My questions on Yohane and TWBW are to find out who is responsible for butchering the subtitles scripts that badly on all french discs. AL France essentially is blaming Com'On Screen for being unable to author proper subtitles, but evidently they are absolutely capable of doing so, as seen with Yohane and TWBW may confirm that if it has dialogue aside of signs in the english subs, for example. Yohane definitely supports the idea that Anime Limited has some staff sabotating french subtitles.

I looked at the first post and a few pages back from here in the thread and didn't see it mentioned here. Episode 6 of Season 1 of Classroom of the Elite has no English subtitles. This is the Crunchyroll UK version; the US one is an older release, a different encode and authoring, and doesn't have the issue.

I wasn't the one that discovered it; Broken Phoenix was, but I verified it on my own copy. He never got any useful response that I know of, so I guess it will not be fixed. I didn't report it as I'm not in the UK so by Crunchyroll's definition I shouldn't own it anyway. The initial post on the issue is here and there's a few followups over the next page or so::

Unfortunately, I never got a useful response in relation to this issue. I tried their customer service and even tried contacting them on twitter to no avail.

I ended up selling the set.

It's really disappointing they just ignore an error this major. I can understand why they don't fix cases of a missing line or two in subtitles, but an entire episode makes it worthless unless you watch the dub instead, which I'm not going to do.

In my case, I already had the (OOP, I think) US version so I have something that is complete at least. The UK version has better video quality though as it is a new encode with a higher bitrate, and a more even split of episodes between the two discs.

Just wanted to add my recent experience with the Code Geass R2 UK release (MVM). The video quality on discs 2 and 3 noticeably drops compared to disc 1, with visible compression artifacts during dark scenes. Also, the Japanese audio track has sync issues in episodes 14-16 where it falls behind by about 2 seconds. Anyone else noticed this? These quality control issues really make it hard to justify buying physical releases when streaming services offer better consistency, even if I prefer owning my favorite series.

Code Geass wasn't released by MVM. Beez tried releasing it initially on DVD. Then in 2013, Kaze released it on 2 six-DVD collections, as well as 2 two-BD collections, Season 1 and Season 2 respectively. Then in 2020, Manga Entertainment released it again on 2 six-DVD collections, but the whole series was released on 8 Blu-ray discs in one collection. I didn't notice any sound sync issues, so that could be a player incompatibility (try watching in another BD player). Personally, I was happy with the video quality with both Kaze and Manga releases.

A US fan reported that the Euphonium Season 1 Crunchyroll release (dubbed) is missing the 7th mini episode.
Can anyone confirm? The UK discs are likely a direct clone?

I’ve just watched the Patlabor 2 movie from Anime.ltd, and came across a disconcerting artefact at the 1:20 mark: A guy in white maintenance overalls stands up, but glitches in and out of different colour clothing/pose, then is standing normally.
I thought I’d look up the scene / time online, and don’t see the same in other video.
Can anyone else confirm? I don’t see any other reports, but can step through the sequenc(and the disc is new out of shrinkwrap), so seems to be the actual data. - I’ll check again tomorrow…

Hi. I was a bit confused with the time you mentioned but you meant 1hr20min mark.

I have the Sentai release version of the film (Anime Limited might be using this version) and it has the error you mentioned above. I didn't notice that before tbh.

I gonna check the DVD version of the film released by BEEZ if it has that issue lol.

EDIT: DVD version is fine lol.

I posted about it a few years ago on the Blu-ray.com forum. I got the Japanese budget-priced movie 1+2 set from 2023 because of that corrupted frame and lack of original Japanese theatrical audio on Sentai's release. It's a shame the double pack was only in print for a very limited time.

Does the Japanese double pack contain both audio options and English subtitles?

Yes, both Japanese audio tracks, English subtitles and also Bandai's English dub. The disc contents are the same as the individual releases from 2007/2008. The double pack is OOP, but the individual films are still in print.

This UK Anime.ltd version just has a choice between a single English and a single JP (with English subs) track, and no other features at all. So presumably exactly the same.
It’s somewhat ironic the main part of the included booklet is a section entitled “A next generation disc checked here and now!” when there’s evidently been no ‘checking’, and an existing issue failed to get resolved.
At least I got it relatively cheap, so I’ll just have to upgrade to a dvd or something.
