Crunchyroll, US or UK, is terrible at releasing movies even if they are a part of continuing storyline. Date A Live: Mayuri Judgment remains missing and wasn't even on their streaming service until long after it was released in Japan. Shout Factory or GKids often end up being the ones to release blu-rays of anime movies in the US even if part of a series; they also did the Shirobako movie while Sentai released the series.

So far I have avoided import blu rays. I play on an Xbox Series X so I think I’d be fine? But as consoles go digital I suspect I’ll have to get a standalone player and want to avoid messing around finding a region cracked one.

Also it’s really annoying that movies and other specials seem to get missed. I recently watched Hanasaku for the first time (was it an anime-on-line DOtW?) and it ended up being my favourite of the PA Works “working” series so I was a bit crestfallen when I realised it had a movie that never came out here. Similar issue with the Non Non Biyori releases. HIDIVE didnt have the OVAs for any of the series and I was annoyed when only Non-Stip blu rays had the bonus episode.

Also it’s funny you mentioned Shirobako because that’s one of the first anime series I watched. A friend convinced me to try it so we could watch the film together at SLA (I tend to skip the franchise films, would rather go for some scran). Ended up loving the series, caught Spy X Family as it airing at that time and now I’m all aboard, watching new series and plugging spare time into older ones. I hated the Shirobako movie though. It felt soulless to me!

My point was more just that Crunchyroll UK is unlikely to release something they don't have in the US. The only movie I can think of where that happened is with Konosuba, and the few cases of series recently (Chainsaw Man, To Your Eternity, and 86) are because of a period when Crunchyroll US was sub-licensing for home video because they weren't releasing much themselves, in the period just before and after the buyout, as I understand it.

I don't know anything about blu-ray playback on game consoles. I use two players; I have both a US and UK version of the Sony BDP-S1700. As cheap as that player is, buying both versions was barely more expensive than buying a region-hacked version, and I don't have to be concerned about any quirks associated with such hacks. That particular player uses an external power supply, so while the US version comes with one that only works on 110V, the UK power supply works on the US player.

Yeah, it's a shame that the Hanasaku Iroha movie was never released here.

Whilest Shout handled physical distribution for several movies like Euphonium & Shirobako, the company who licensed those was Eleven Arts. Eleven Arts usually brought smaller movies into American cinemas as well, a thing that Japanese rights holder sometimes even requested.

However it seems that Eleven Arts is no longer active but Shout still allowed to sell these until either rights or stocks expire.

The Eleven Arts website is still online but it looks like Blue Thermal is the newest thing there, and that was March 2023.

Crunchyroll US September releases are expected to be revealed on monday evening UK time. Everything else? Still a secret. Well, the delisted Frieren part 2 may reappear.

However a retailer revealed 2 weeks ago a bunch of product listings by Crunchyroll Germany (up to Jan 2026) - some of which not yet announced for US or UK. But especially as Crunchyroll discontinued their multi-language Standard Editions, the German lineup could be totally different from other languages / territories. Suzume 4K was not announced by these listings, however it's unknown if these were complete or not. MHA You're Next was also missing...

On the other hand: As many Crunchyroll Steelbooks sold in Germany were the same as English Editions, US/UK Steelbooks of Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest, Haikyu Dumpster Battle, Sailor Moon, Tower of God S2 & 86 are likely coming in a few months as well.

I will probably get this one. Initially I was wondering how it managed to get a BBFC 18 rating, but then I remembered how they are with suicide.

Meanwhile, AL still has nothing from Crunchyroll past the April releases available; I guess they really aren't going to carry Crunchyroll's products anymore. :( I never got a response to my inquiry about this either.

I think they also just announced Season 1 (of OG Sailor Moon) on Blu-ray as an upcoming title, it was mentioned in a thread on this forum, but that might have been for the US (in which case it would be a rerelease), think it might have been for UK though? :)
