UK Anime Distributor Crunchyroll/Funimation/Manga UK Discussion Thread

I'm wondering if the Manga UK BD of Gargantia is better than the Viz release. The listings on blu-ray.com suggest that they're different discs (supposedly the audio on the Viz discs is 16 bit DTS, while the Manga UK discs are supposedly 24 bit PCM). This review claims that the UK discs were authored locally and has unlocked subtitles (did the Viz release have locked subtitles?).

Can someone with the UK release confirm these details? Also comment on the picture quality and subtitle legibility (the Viz white subs can be hard to read and tend to blend in). If these discs were done by Manga UK, and aren't just a copy of the Viz release, I'm thinking there's a pretty good chance that the video quality is significantly improved (the Viz release is known to not be that good). But I'm not sure what Manga UK's reputation was for their discs back then, so if someone could comment on that, it might also be helpful.

Not asking at random; I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble to try tracking down the OOP Manga UK BDs or not.
It would appear to me that the discs are different...

Just wondering is there any sign of Bocchi getting an English dub?
I already know about Japanese sub but I kind want to hold off.

If anything a Bocchi dub would be announced closer to S2 airing as a way to soft promo the series but are very very unlikely to get the music dubbed which would make the dub very skippable. Plus the blu-ray has released in multiple English speaking regions then without the dub which would be frustrating.

Laid Back Camp came out in Jan-2018 and didn't get a dub until Aug-2022 so the dream isn't dead!

Anyone still have the same problem where on the store its a price, but then login and its cheaper due to haveing a sub? But then add to basket ans it shows the sale price and not the further discount? For example, rent a girlfriend is £16.66 without sub but with sub its £14.99 but add to basket its still £16.66 weird

This season Crunchyroll have surprisingly been showing the uncensored version of Takamine-san, unfortunately it's been too spicy for Crunchyrolls liking and next week for the 3rd time an episode is being delayed to get the slightly censored version to replace it with.

I'd rather them just run the slightly censored version without delay rather than chopping and changing like this.

Hi, what's it got that they feel the need to be doing this?
I don't know anything about it.

Thanks

I am picturing the crunchyroll execs going to hell and the devil making them watch Interspecies Reviewers for the rest of time.👺

There's a lot of nudity, in the episodes they've delayed to get the slightly censored version there has been a focus on crotch shots. It's nowhere as explicit as interspecies reviewers but still more so than CR would normally show.

There are 3 versions of this being broadcast, the first one has full censorship, the second censors revealing shots or nudity below the belt and then the fully uncensored version.

Crunchyroll have delayed episodes 3 & 5 by 6 days to source the slightly censored version instead of the uncensored version they have been showing and next weeks episode also appears to be delayed.

Probably would have been better served on Hi-Dive

Meh, I'll just get the standard release of Frieren Part 2 then. I'm not paying more than £55 / $70 for an LE box with half a season in it, any pricier and it just means it has a bunch of useless swag added to it. I'm much more into Apothecary Diaries and that series only got a standard release for both parts. Like ID5's post above, my only interest in buying LE sets is for the chipboard box itself to house the two parts, and a few art cards or a thin art book fit inside is an acceptable addition. OST discs are nice but fairly rare. For me nothing else needs to be included in an LE set.

Amazon seems to have removed the Frieren pages and it isn't part of Crunchyroll's press release page so something must have happened where it is delayed.
