UK Anime Distributor Crunchyroll/Funimation/Manga UK Discussion Thread

It took me a few moments to get over the 'but that isn't anime or even anime related!' shock, but I think it's probably a good move for them. At the very least it'll be bringing in the money nice and quick.

I wonder if this is something of a retreat from the anime industry for manga and to an extent Jerome who obviously doesn't care as much for the industry as perhaps he once did? Also fairly surprised this is under Manga rather than Animatsu, but I guess they're one and the same so the label doesn't matter that much.

Not surprised about the license (should be a good pickup for them) but using the Manga brand rather than Animatsu is confusing, I agree. What was the purpose of keeping Animatsu around, again? This would seem to be right up their street.

I think it will probably sell well for them but the show itself was awful when it aired and I doubt it's aged well. Still if it allows them to keep releasing more anime then that's fine.

I wonder what Jerome is up to this weekend, wonder what license he is after?

I dunno, something 90s/early 00's that can be sold for nostalgia? Medabots? Shaman King? Sailor Moon? Of course, it'd be neat if they got something a little more recent, but who knows? Seeing as AL has snapped up all the Aniplex, Funimation and CR licences, I'm unsure what it could be. Perhaps those Netflix series like Ajin or SDS, which remain unlicensed?

Seems like it's something big

Evangellion? Yuri!!! on Ice*?

*Obviously not in the same ballpark, but it would be a huge get for Manga.

Could be Crunchyroll, we don't know that AL has an all output deal with Crunchyroll, and it sounds like they were close to selling Manga Re:Zero and Twin Star Exorcists.

Although details aren't solid yet, I'm pretty sure Funimation is having a hand in CR's distribution. I'd be pretty shocked if it ended up anywhere barring AL. That being said, you have a point, so I won't rule it out entirely, but I'm 95% certain it won't end up with Manga.

It sounds like Funimation have home video rights for Crunchyroll titles, but based on Jerome's comments, Crunchyroll themselves are handling international sub-licensing agreements.

Manga actively avoid the female market so I doubt he'd go for it unless mistakes were made (as has happened before). It's probably something that isn't even anime but he certainly sounds excited.

He has talked about his love of the Netflix series Volton (from DreamWorks Animation, who currently distrbute via Fox, but have just been purchased by Universal) and Steven Universe (from Cartoon Network, who have corporate ties to Warner Bros., but have had separate distribution deals before).

I think the latter's more of a possibility, maybe even a blanket Cartoon Network/Adult Swim deal, which could be a huge get for them. But he doesn't even say licensing, so maybe it's an original or sales deal he's after?

If it is SU, he needs to hurry up and say something. I've almost bought the Aus release several times.
