Coroners and Justice Bill.....Threat to anime??

AUKN meet next year in prison?

Horrendous thoughtcrime though I think this law is, I think the only people who are likely to be prosecuted under it will be people who upload it onto the internet / import physical media. Or download f*cktons of it.

Doesn't mean I agree with it, but since I don't fall into the above categories it won't mean a right lot for me personally unless they start taking hentai / doujin sites down for hosting this stuff. Which they probably can't, at least not until UNICEF (whose time and money, like that of our own government, you'd think would be better spent protecting real children) get their way, as they're all based in other countries.

Yeah, I was being deliberately dramatic (as you may have been able to tell). I believe this law was designed to target the most disturbing images. Moreover, it stipulates that the image must be "grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character", and no matter how subjective the interpretation, a nude Haruhi surely doesn't meet that criteria.

Still, that a "child" is defined as a "a person under the age of 18", they've cast a wide net.

just their net has many holes for the fish to escape though ;)

So does this mean anyone owning or selling a copy of the lost girls or the watchmen is now going to be arrested?

Anyway, as for its introduction, good. Lets see if there is a hentai stand at the next expo ;)

Sounds as though you have some moral objection to adult anime. I suspect that's the government's prime motivation, too, because I'm fairly certain that this law won't save a single child from abuse. It's a desperate move from a deeply unpopular government.

There is a big difference between adult anime and what this bill is aimed at. I have no issues with adult anime, although I don't see why anyone actually needs animated hardcore porn.

But I do love seeing people knee-jerk and squirm when stuff like this happens ;)

Erm... perhaps because, being fictional, none of the performers are being exploited or victimised? I imagine that's why it's a lot more popular with women than live action pornography.

I'm sure all those female Yaoi fans secretly harbour a desire to molest underage boys.

The only kneejerking here is from a government which has banned something without any evidence that it's harmful. And if paedophiles do use lolicon as an outlet, this law will be counterproductive.

Like most I find it sad that now even thought is considered crime, but in the end this doesn't affect me at all. Besides Aion's beliefs, I'm not into lolicon. I believe that ultimately, this would only be used to convict people already suspected of abusing children.

It may not affect us directly, but here's the thing. Modern Warfare 2 has put violent games back in the spotlight yet again. We've been here before and nothing ever happens, but every time the issue comes up, it worries me. Violent games are something I do enjoy (not so much CoD, but certainly that other much-maligned franchise GTA). And the politicians put forward the same arguments they did for banning lolicon--it makes people do bad things--with the same lack of evidence.

This is why I feel it's wholly irresponsible for people to respond to the banning of lolicon, or "extreme" pornography between two consenting adults, or whatever else the government decide we need saving from, by saying "good". No, it is not good. It is very, very not good.

Although this law is somewhat worrying especially for those who look at hentai. The fact is very few arrests will come from this and those will be who were probably looking at actual child porn as well.

Well censorship works in chains we ba one thing and another turd goes well if your banning that you need to ban this and so the ball gets rolling and before we know it we're not allowed to do anything.

i've read it, the only thing i can think of that it'll affect in the anime industry is Hentai, and even then only the more "obcene" things such as loli and possibly furry

Welcome to 21st Century Britain.

Bare in mind that this country makes you think you're a kiddy fidller just by looking at a child.

We've been to the zoo but we don't want to shag the animals.

I wouldn't be surprised that this goverment has been introducing laws to get rid of people they don't like, such as politcal Aggrovators and use the laws to cover it up.

But i'm paranoid most of the time and this thread made me think of a plan to fake my own death and leave the country.
