So come on guys I'm now putting you on the spot....

If I said recommend something thats dark, non-mecha, psychological, drama... something like to me, what would you suggest?

Oh and perhaps something else thats simular to 'Voices From A Distant Star' - that has the romantic element but no kiddie humour....?

Hope your brains feel picked

Cheers will check out Lain, been reading about it on the net. Seems pretty fabbo!

I'll look into C.Bebop

And me and Guyver go waaaaaaaay back, old friends see ;)

Lain as already mentiond. Noein if you like stuff you need to be switched on to watch, or Ergo Proxy another thinking series with a bit of action.

Haibane Renmei and Serial Experiments Lain should do that list for a good start. As for the romantic, perhaps Whisper of the Heart would be a nice one.

...Just Got Ninja'd on Lain. Hence, Paranoia Agent/Perfect Blue for equally psychological stuff. I also was going to say Noien, but that got jumped with as well :p

Ah yes but have you seen the new more shiner Guyver 2005 series  (first 15 eps follow the old series but after that its more matrial from the manga)

Other then that i'm not sure any of the main choices i would of come up with have already been mentioned above

I'd actually suggest Satoshi Kon's and Makoto Shinkai's movies. I'm pretty sure you will love it.

Not really sure you will love them, but I suggest you try Samurai Champloo, one of the weirdest (in a good way) samurai anime ever.

And yes, wikipedia is a goof source of info. A good list of animes for you to try out can be this.. http://www.animenfo.com/statistic/top.php?type=anime

And its wikipedia the best place to check out this shizz?

It is and it isn't. It's a great source of information, but sometimes too much information. Watch you don't spoil anything for yourself.

I personally like http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ for info, although it can be a little tricky to find what you're looking for.

All three seasons of Full Metal Panic.

Now before anyone jumps down my throat, I have reasons. First, while the drama itself isn't particularly dark, the humour itself is quite dark because the humour revolves around Sousuke's inability to cope in civilised society due to trauma he experienced as a child. However, some of the dramatic parts have a good...um..."psychological feel" to them. Also, while there are mecha in the first season and The Second Raid (season 3), they're not the main focus.

Let me tell you a trick them... If you type site:<sitename> keyword @ google, it will search that particular site only. For instance, try copying and pasting the below into google for yotsuba. (please notice there is no space between site:siteName - if you put a space this trick does not work.

site:animenewsnetwork.com yotsuba

dark, non-mecha, psychological, drama

Given your brief criteria, I think you'll like Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent.

If you enjoyed the themes present in Voice's, you should check out The Place Promised in Our Early Days and 5 Centimeters Per Second.

They don't feature as much sci-fi as Voice's, but they're both by the same bloke, longer and a pleasure to watch.

A few people seem to dislike the ending to Place Promised though, but it's still generally excellent IMO.
