Anime: my eternal nostalgia trip

VivisQueen

Adventurer
I've never been quite able to give up anime because it's a great way to keep the child in me alive. The child in me happens to be Sakura Kinomoto. The adult in me is turning day by day into Eva Heinemann. So you see the need.

In any case, I'm glad to have discovered something resembling a decent UK online community. Ordinarily, I hang out at anime-planet.com writing reviews for the site. I usually buy from amazon, read features on OtakuUSA, and listen to Anime World Order podcasts. So, it's rather eerie to come to a predominantly British community where irony is appreciated and people don't abuse the term 'freedom of speech'.

Seems a little quiet, but I'm hoping for rich, involving discussions about great anime. Now, which way is the pub in here?

Well, 1st you gotta take a left (because you have to). 2nd, you need to take a trip to Edo-Japan, but watch out for the Shinsengumi clan in operation. From there, you need to head to the desert and find a strange-looking sci-fi city, of which you need to reach the top and then pierce the heavens in a spiral formation. (Note: sparkly effects are nice to watch.)
Finally, land and get the hell out of your knightmare frame. There in front of you will be Fairy Tail, a nice place for some quick drinks and story telling. ;)

BTW, Welcome to the forums. Enjoy your stay. :D

'General Conversation' serves as a pretty good pub. It has been unusually quiet in terms of actual anime discussion for a while; AUKN is pretty slow moving but I still say it's the best UK anime forum.

It's good to see someone dive straight in and get some conversation going. Welcome. :)

Hey there VivisQueen - welcome to our little corner of the world.
So you're a Sakura Kinomoto and Eva Heinemann crossover? I wonder what that's like, so I hope you stick long enough for me to find out.

i still believe the reason i'm single is cause i'm yet to find someone who agree to name our little girl Sakura :( *wishful thinking)

oh, welcome to the mad house, love the avatar ;)

I take it you're an AWO fan too, ilmaestro?
Started listening to them about eight months ago, just about listened to every episode now thanks to my daily commute. Trying to push them onto anyone I can find, as they are in the small minority of anime commentators who actually talk sense! Listening to them is probably the quickest way to work out my general views on anime (except that I don't hate moe ^^; ). Just a shame they can't make any money from it and can't do the shows as regularly these days. :/

Thanks for the friendly welcomes.

If you're female, PLEASE STAY. I need a good internet girl/woman/object to keep me posting on this forum. It's just, like, no fun whatsoever knowing I'm typing to men who, in all probability, have boobs. It isn't good to imagine myself typing to a female who looks like she's been hit by a bus and then reversed over, either, but it's better than nothing.

You'll probably look around, take what you want and, after getting as much attention as possible from the virgin elite, leave, but know that I want you to stay. In fact, I want to be your close friend. I'll even act like a horse if you play the role of a sheep on MSN. I'll have to be somewhat realistic in terms of size, but I'm willing to give it a go, assuming you are.

.
..Eva, from Monster... wasn't she the spoiled brat of an older woman who wanted everything her own way? If so, you aren't my type of e-girl. I'm sorry.

Hello VivisQueen, welcome to the forum. I do hope you have good taste in films! You like Monster so I'll just assume you have superior taste.

A slightly belated welcome to you Vivisqueen. Ilmaestro does go on about the podcasts a fair bit, probably trying to push me to listen in to them(much like he tries to get me to watch everything >.>) So i may have a looky into it in due course. I don't think i know of OtakuUSA though, mind you in the past few months i've been too busy with uni that i've lost track of a lot of the different sites. So i should really find time to do so

Anywho, again, welcome to AUKN.

Thanks for all the great welcome, guys! I'm definitely planning to stick around. I'm picky but loyal as hell when it comes to internet places to hang out. I've stuck with only one forum for years, so it's good to check out a UK alternative for a breath of fresh air.

That-Bastard-Bad-Guy-Aion: That's one of the most entertaining welcomes I've read. Good luck to ya in life! :D

I got into AWO by first stalking Mike Toole around the internet using google (I love his AnimeJump reviews). Realised the guy has dropped off the face of the earth. Then the name 'Daryl Surat' kept popping up in relation to him, so I hunted that out. Found articles by both them and their colleagues on OtakuUSA, which were some of the best-written and most informative and passionate, and then found their podcast. Never been into podcasts, but I tried one out just for the hell of it, enjoyed their banter, and now semi-addicted.

Not been listening for a long while because I'm not too interested in their Decade in Review stuff. I did check out their 2007 one because I thought that year was really quite satisfying (they forgot Bokurano!!). Downloading 2008-2009 as we speak.

I agree that they often make sense, although, when they get opinionated on occasion, it can be a bit cringe-worthy. I presume that other podcasts are only worse, considering the law of averages on the internet. Haha. My favourite of the three hosts is Gerald Rathkolb, just because he sounds like he belongs in a neurotic comedy like Black Books. PLUS he reviewed one of my favourite childhood shows, Future Police Urashiman!

Why do I only get one measly sentence, while Maes gets three?

Bitches these days don't know about forum rankings...

Actually, ilmaestro got three paragraphs.

Bastards these days don't know their English language. Or when to be grateful.

I missed 'paragraphs' off the end, you silly woman. Do you need a man to explain these things to you; can your small brain not work these things out without my help?

And I find it deeply offensive when some random bitch swears at me. Please don't use the 'B' word when addressing me in the future.

Taking things abit for don't you think guys (and lass ofcorse)

Where's Rui when order is required lol.

*Hugs Aion*
Aw common, bro. Dont be too angry about the whole 3 paragraphs favouritism. I only got a generalised/grouped welcome with others. At least you got a mention, and a 'good luck' wish.
Mind you, my greeting was a long-winded and irrelivant directions to answer her original question... Meh.

*Hugs VivisQueen*
And please forgive him, VivisQ, He may have called you a "bitch," but that's just his way of expressing himself. Kind like I tell Ryo to "piss off" when I dont mean it offensively. :p

Yes: I clearly called Vivi a bitch in a good way.

To rephrase, I want you to be my bitch. Y'see, when I saw my shrink today, he offered some helpful advice: use the internet and get a girlfriend. So, yeah, would you be interested in becoming my bitch? The position is available and, though the pay would be low, you'd get my wonderful personality.
