Last week, the UK distributor Anime Limited announced that they would be teasing us a bit by announcing two of their new license acquisitions prior to this weekend's London MCM Comic Con and the first of those new licenses have been announced!

Produced by Studio Gainax of <em>Neon Genesis Evangelion</em> fame and directed by Hiroyuki Yamaga (<em>Maharomatic</em>), the first announcement is the 1987 theatrical sci-fi feature <strong>Wings of Honneamise</strong>, which is due out in the United Kingdom on DVD and blu-ray for the first time this November in both standard and limited edition combi-packs!

Anime Limited's official synopsis is as follows:

<em>Set in a world eerily similar to our own, war between the Kingdom of Honneamise and its archrival, The Republic, seems inevitable. But even as the two nations&rsquo; rapidly evolving technology creates new ways to wage greater and more deadly forms of warfare, a small group seeks to use those same advances to propel mankind forward into the future and into space in their world&rsquo;s first manned spaceflight program.</em>

Andrew Partridge, El Presidente of Anime Limited, had this to say about the acquisition:

<em>Wings of Honneamise&nbsp;</em>is a film that every anime fan should see &ndash; it&rsquo;s really the start&nbsp;of Gainax. &nbsp; Before Gunbuster, Nadia, Evangelion or Gurren Lagann &ndash; the studio was pushing the envelope with Science Fiction! &nbsp;<em>Honneamise</em> is a personal favourite so I&rsquo;m really excited to be able to give it the Anime Limited treatment this year.&rdquo;

This has been on my 'plan to watch' list for a while now, really looking forward to it.

Will it at least be uncut?

Should be, the uncut version was given a 15 in the very least.

I don't see Anime Limited putting a cut version of any thing on the market, and if it only rated a 15 in uncut form that's nothing to worry about at all. It's not like they are trying to get the movie into Cinemas for kids to watch and need a 12.

Re: Anime Limited Licenses Wings of Honneamise

Good choice but I'll probably pass on it due to already owning the Bandai USA blu-ray.

Re: Anime Limited Licenses Wings of Honneamise

Maybe they'll replicate the Japanese release like they did with Tiger and Bunny.

Same. I never expected Wings of Honneamise to return to the UK, but I expect Anime Limited will do it justice.

It's amazing this film ever got made in the first place. A young studio with not much work to their name pitch an idea for a film with practically no action, and somehow get an enormous budget to create one of the most beautiful, meticulously designed anime features ever. Only in the bubble years. Gainax have never topped Honneamise, and they never will.

I'll double dip if they get rid of the slight overscan friendly letterboxing. And it'll be a day one purchase if they get the audio commentary.

You guys want a refresher on who's in the cast?

Re: Anime Limited Licenses Wings of Honneamise

I am DELIRIOUSLY happy!

I'll be replacing my Manga US DVD with the blu-ray of this. Utterly gorgeous movie. EVERYBODY on this site should see it.

Re: Anime Limited Licenses Wings of Honneamise

Now this is one title I never thought I would see again over in the UK. Not sure if I still have my Manga VHS of it.

Re: Anime Limited Licenses Wings of Honneamise

Great news, I bought an old VHS copy recently to watch this but I'll hold off for the Blu Ray now.

Re: Anime Limited Licenses Wings of Honneamise

I'm in the same position as mangaman, but can lend my emotion support to this release and hope to see more along the same lines in the future.
