UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

So I’ve finally decided to stop being a grumpy recluse and planning to head to my first SLA this year. When do they usually start announcing stuff?

Any tips for time/cost saving would also be appreciated please and thank you.
Glasgow is a good option as accommodation is usually much cheaper. I tend to stay at the Premier Inn a few minutes walk from the Glasgow Film Theatre. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, but there isn’t a huge length of time between movies so it’s good to have a hearty breakfast and then some lunch before the first film starts. It gets very hot in the GFT especially the higher up you sit. If you arrive early you can get in and grab decent seats for the first showing and keep them for all three films on each day. There’s not a lot of leg room, so if you’re tall you might be best sat down the front.

Glasgow will show all of the films in competition, and almost all of the new things, while Edinburgh is a bit more of a mix between old and new films. As Edinburgh has more slots over the week (as opposed to Glasgow’s 9 films over 3 days) there may be films you can only see in Edinburgh. For example, last year I went to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and saw Angel’s Egg, Junk World and the four Takeshi Koike Lupin OVAs that I wouldn’t have seen if I’d only gone to Glasgow. There’s the option of getting a weekend pass for Glasgow, which is certainly worth it if you intend to see most of the films.

I’m fortunate that I have relatives I can stay with in Edinburgh, though. If I only had the option to attend one weekend, I’d choose Glasgow, as Edinburgh’s so expensive. I’ve been six times in total now, twice to Glasgow, three times to Edinburgh, and once in Aberdeen in early 2020 when the 2019 festival films were shown at the Belmont Filmhouse.

I mean, this was what was sent out when the delay happened. Forgive me for trusting what I've been told.

Much like trust, forgiveness is earned, Mr. White~

Trusting AL to be timely is akin to trusting a 🐿️ not to steal your 🥜 s. Ordering elsewhere once out is preferable to paying monies months in advance... only for releases to inevitably be pushed back.

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on meeee"

After all these years buying from AL, and seeing them readily changing dates without saying, that you'd choose to believe an email from July over the updated dates stores have (and be rude to Snippy trying to help you) does not reflect well on you.

'Tis a given there will be delay(s), for AL seemingly exist to repeat history. You however could learn from it. Then - and only then - I'd forgive you. Maybe?

Ah yes, almost forgot that was Sony despite owning the 4K steelbook, is silly they haven't released that over here though, I think it's pretty expensive now and there is no standard 4K iirc?

Didn't realise the steelbook now costs £200ish. Mine an Italian import so was going OOP then, I suppose.

Some good news for you: 'tis getting a JP 4k box set. And seems it'll have Eng sub/dub. Out on Sept the 9th.

Yorokobe, shounen. Kimi no negai wa, youyaku kanau~

I got mine from Italy too. Cost me €30 including shipping.

Mine was thru eBay/took a gamble on rarewaves (their packing iirc not best). Had £6 VAT included in price but 'only' £38 total. Stung a bit at a time... less so seeing current market. Think we typed sbout briefly in photo thread--I could've probably got cheaper thru Amazon.it, think you pointed out.

I probably did at the time. Last time I posted about the price was December.

I hope you didn't pay over the odds for Paprika, it's still available for about £20 plus shipping from Amazon Italy.

My memory was accurate, then (for once). 'Tis odd: whilst everything else fades, the memories of when I am wronged or humiliated remain.
Thank you for humbling meeee, when I was proud of my overpriced steelbook. 🦚

'Twas foolish on my part not to check, given I had - somewhat fittingly - imported The Godfather's steelbook from Ama.italy. C'est la vie~

Amazon italy do have great deals on 4Ks from time to time, got the Matrix 4 film 4K set for €18 a few years ago. This was before a 4 film set was available here too.
