UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

I'd genuinely be tempted but as I said like a month ago I find the movie too problematic to enjoy. Feels like it really could have been something but decides to instead opt for "But really, what does WWII Japan have to apologise for?". Not saying it should have been Japan prostrating itself but a story that could have been the perfect forum for self reflection goes completely the other way.
 
I suppose it makes sense to release a new edition of Minus One now, with the hype building for Minus Zero and the deluxe edition long out of print. I already have the deluxe edition though, so I would have been more interested in releases for some of the older Godzilla movies that have recently had remastered editions in Japan. Godzilla 1954 and Biollante already have good quality UK releases from Criterion, but there have been problems with the existing releases from Criterion (film splices) and Sony (dubtitles or missing end credit sequences) for many of the other movies, so there's a lot of room for improvement on those.

I also wonder if anyone is a bad enough dude to release Chibi Godzilla Raids Again. That show is hilarious.

Going by the past few years, the lineup is usually announced mid September (22/09/2023, 16/09/2024, 10/09/2025).

We already know the dates for this year (Glasgow 06/11-08/11, Edinburgh 16/11-22/11) so if you know which one you would want to go to you could probably save money by trying to book somewhere to stay now (that has free cancellation so if you decide otherwise you're not out of pocket). The later you leave it the more expensive it's likely to be (I always book my accommodation as soon as they announce the dates, this year I booked somewhere in Edinburgh back in February for three nights for around £250).

Personally I've only ever gone to Edinburgh because it usually (always?) has the most films and despite it lasting a week IMO Monday to Thursday are mostly old films that have already been shown so you can get away with arriving on Friday (first film that day normally starts around 15:00-16:00) and leaving the following Monday.

I've loved every year and it's the only holiday (that's not sat in my pants playing video games) I normally take. Sadly cannot make it this year 😭

My advice:

1) sort travel and hotel as soon as you're ready to commit. For Edinburgh, I like the Premier Inn on Lauriston Place because it's close enough to nip back to your room between films for a private bathroom experience :D PI is on the pricier side, plenty of cheaper B&Bs (though not all do a cooked breakfast so check!) but prioritise being close. Saving £15 a night but travelling even for 20 minutes at 11pm after watching four films basically back to back is gruelling when you want to shower and rest.

2) Breakfast is important, if you plan to watch 3+ films a day (Fri-Sun) then this might be your only major meal of the day. Tesco / Sainsburys local close by, Subway and Greggs and some cafes and such but unless you skip films you are unlikely to have more than 20 minutes to scran something. Even as a non-breakfast person I've learned to load up!

3) As soon as you can find a seating zone you like, and for the next films get in the queue asap to secure that. Not been back to the Filmhouse myself yet since it reopened so cannot say where is good but I figured out at The Cameo the second to last row had a slight height advantage for example.

Thanks for the responses. Timing-wise it would have to be Glasgow for me anyway (assuming those dates don't shift). Although in my head I'd always thought Glasgow was the bigger one, possible just because it's AL's home turf. Hopefully there's still plenty of good stuff there.
