UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

The GQuuuuuuX answer didn't really surprise me. There was something about the cinema release that felt more like it was Bandai calling in AL's services. I believe Andrew has implied SEED Freedom is more one they have the rights to.

EDIT- With the benefit of sleep (stressful day yesterday, got mucked around despite following protocol), whilst this is a strong lineup of announcements the projected dates make me pessimistic we'll be getting any Gundam at all this year. We're basically halfway into 2025 and most of these are slated for late summer and into Autumn. Unless there are surprises for winter, it feels like we're right back to being promised more Gundam at the start of a year and by the end being told it's not happening.

And I feel I've said this many times but it really has sapped my interest in the AL releases. I'd love to have nice physical releases that don't carry the threat of streaming, but 10 years of "So much Gundam, you guys!...Oh no, now it's not coming." is exhausting

Yeah, I always feel like it's hard to get too excited about any new announcement from AL since they always have multiple year+ old stuff that still haven't had any updates whenever they announce something new.
It's why I've largely gone back to importing US releases, mostly Discotek and Sentai. I've owned Call of the Night for what must be well over a year at this point, and bought both seasons of Dangers in my Heart as they came out. All barebones keepcase releases but shelf space, value for money concerns, and the uncertainty around when, and indeed whether, they turn up in the UK makes the decision not to wait an easier one. Dandadan probably just going to get the GKids Blu-ray next month.

And when we get something that isn't porting old Sentai discs, it goes months and months without so much as an update. I appreciate that there's a lot of work involved in bringing these products to fruition, but it's frustrating when months come and go and not a single word about them is uttered.

Does AL only have rights for the movie screening of "A Miku Who Can't Sing" or do they also have rights for the home video release?

I do think it’s because of Nozomis death. Like I would love the Rec in G films to get an affordable release but I know CR will not touch those with a 10 foot barge poll. Macross currently is also in the same problem Nozomi promised a Macross 7 and Delta sets…

I've openly acknowledged the Nozomi reality. It's just been the case that this has been happening for a long time regardless and after a decade of this it's hard to keep up hope and enthusiasm.

Emo185 did and there's basically no announcements. Just recapping Macross Plus, Zero and the Shooting Insight game.
Thanks. That's disappointing, but not surprising. Looks like I'll be importing the subtitled JP BDs for Macross Delta after all. There's no point holding out hope for Nozomi when they haven't managed to get Dirty Pair out the door after half a decade, if Nozomi even exist as more than a logo floating around the internet at this point.

I asked, no news on a home video release but it is something they will try to do.
Thank you. I hope they will be able to that cause otherwise there is literally nothing for me in their new license announcements. I have only ordered one release from AL this year and that was in January and soon we are six months into this year.

I’d buy Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust for the 3rd time. I’d buy it four times if I could get the original novel or its manga adaptation.

Apparently confirmed too that Macross Plus will get a standard blu ray too

@Spark_Heal The original novel is available in English via the Vampire Hunter D omnibus Vol 1 from Dark Horse (contains 3 novels. The third one in that collection is the one bloodlust is based on). It seems to still be in print as the omnibus releases are still ongoing and places online still have them in stock. I got a copy recently.

@sirijo This Macross Plus standard blu ray. Did they say if it would contain both the OVA and the movie versions? I'd love to get a standard release of both that would fit on a shelf.

Going over my notes, I believe @Hanners only said the movie. Someone quoted my Bluesky post claiming this is apparently the case in Japan too- the movie is easily available but the OVA behind a more limited release.

Yeah, it was included with the 2013 Complete Blu-ray Box that iirc only got reprinted once. Only Italy got a non-limited Blu-ray release of the OVA.

@HellCat and @Scavenger
Damn. I was hoping Anime Ltd would change their mind on that after seeing some of the feedback on here and elsewhere. Yeah I knew that typically it's not exactly easy to get in other territories as well but I can't help but be a little disappointed. Guess I might have to bite the bullet and get that monstrosity of a Ultimate edition and put the discs in a standard Amaray and get a custom cover printed for it.

The UE is sold out, the only version available with the OVAs is the even more expensive Sharon Apple Edition with the vinyl ost.
