UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Barring the lack of Gundam home video announcements, it was a strong batch of titles that I want to buy.

Dan dan dan, Carole and Tuesday and The Dangers with my Heart were the strong personal standouts for me, alongside Bleach Box 2 and Set 6-9.

With Bleach Box 2 set to release in the Summer, I'm planning to grab Sets 2-5 alongside Bleach TYBW Part 2 in the upcoming month or two.

With Naruto Part 1 almost being completed, I will start collecting the series, unlike Bleach, I will be going the Standard Blu-Ray route, as despite my respect for the series, it doesn't fully resonate with me as it once did back in the day when I was young, compared to Bleach and One Piece, which my fondness for them has strengthen over the years especially with the former.

Then again, I could be wrong when I do eventually revist Naruto Part 1 soon 😉

Carole and Tuesday collectors edition

Finally! I knew it'd come eventually.

A lot of great announcements, the majority I'll be picking up for sure!

EDIT: Was on my break at work earlier when I posted so couldn't do a long post.

Carole & Tuesday is the highlight for me, in my top ten anime series. I'd love if they included a soundtrack as I'm a big fan of the vocal songs they sing during the show.

Undead Unluck I finished recently and is one of my more favourite recent SJ titles so I'll definitely be picking this up.

"Oshi no Ko" and DAN DA DAN I've only seen a few episodes of each and really need to get back to them but I've enjoyed what little I've seen but I'll try and watch them before the pre-orders go up to see if I'll justify getting a CE or not (probably will though).

Call of the Night and The Dangers in My Heart are two popular recent shows I'm yet to watch so like the former two I'll try and watch them to see if I'll get the CE for these as well.

Gurren Lagann: The Movies (4K) are a welcome surprise, being another Aniplex title we're getting finally. I'm still yet to watch the original blu-ray release of the movies AL put out but I love the series so I'll definitely be picking these up in the better format plus I doubt it'll be the ridiculous price Aniplex charge for a barebones release.

GITS I still need to watch the orignal SAC so I'm in no rush for that (only seen the original two movies for GITS in general).

Bleach I'll carry on buying the standard editions as I have.

Macross Plus: The Movie (Standard BD) I'll also pick up as I skipped on the UE due to its size. I do hope they'll eventually release a regular sized CE / LE which includes both the OVA and the Movie but I'll settle for just the movie for now.

Hosoda Movies (4K) are easy pick-up's as well, I adore all three of these movies and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was my number one favourite anime movie at one point (prior to When Marnie Was There).

I really hope they have Call of the Night due soon as I'm undecided whether to go for the Sentai edition (as that one looks incredible) and I don't know if AL will quite match an edition as good as Sentai's.

They said we'd have to wait on Bleach set 2. Apparently for once wait meant very little. And the box looks great.

Finally Oshi No Ko news!

Wait... HELCK!!! DID THEY FREAKING SAY HELCK! WHY WAS THIS THE FIRST ANIME LIMITED PANEL I HAD TO MISS! I WOULD HAVE BEEN SCREAMING FOR JOY!
And a collector's edition too! I remember mentioning this series in passing to them maybe 2 years back or something. I love the series but I didn't think it had a big chance of a release here now. But obviously more than I have expressed interest! This is a wonderful day!
I should miss panels more often as when I do they announce all the stuff I really want.

Nice lineup, but still no Blood or Devilman Crybaby. Though wouldn't be surprised if this new lot of licenses will be out before those 🥴
Yeah, I always feel like it's hard to get too excited about any new announcement from AL since they always have multiple year+ old stuff that still haven't had any updates whenever they announce something new.

My guess, this plays into the issues Bleach had. The committees they have to contact in Japan and organise with simply meet so little so getting approval and feedback takes so long. Whereas the newer stuff like Dandadan is going to have fairly frequent meetings to discuss brand stuff.

While I found these announcements to be an improvement over the last MCM batch, overall it's just not as exciting as you would get from these panels that came years ago and I think the biggest problem here is that a majority of these titles are ones that have already been released by US distributors ages ago and are accessible to Region B/UK players. The only one that came as a true surprise reveal was Gurren Lagann's films re-licensed and for the 4K Ultra HD format which was a shock considering Aniplex haven't been bothering with UK distributors for a short while.

And collector's editions are neat for these titles (and they do make sense this time around), whether they'll provide as much content as the US versions is still up in the air. Will we get the exact same booklet that came included with the Steelbook release for The Dangers In My Heart or the bonus Blu-ray disc that came included with the Steelbook release for Oshi no Ko? We'll never know until they are listed for pre-order.

If they do manage to secure the license for the other Macross titles then that changes my overall opinion on this batch of news but for now it's just another 'eh its fine'. Nothing wrong with bringing these shows over to the UK, but other distributors would have released them way sooner and if the collector's sets end up being a rigid box with 4 art cards and a poster and/or two UK amaray cases, then that's just insulting the UK anime fans at this point.

Just seeing these now. Great lineup overall but the standouts to me are definitely Dandadan and the Gurren Lagann Movies.

I was honestly kinda shocked that the Dandadan release wasn't another simul-release in collaboration with G-KID's release when that was announced, but I guess they only got the North American rights this time. Looking forward to seeing how AL's version differs.

And for Gurren Lagann, I'm purely gonna be getting it for the Dub. I already got the 4K standard from Japan a bit over a year back now which just comes with the subbed version. I doubt I'd sell my original copy though. GL is one of those anime standing at the pinnacle of my all-time faves so I dont think I'd be able to let it go.

Again, I've said before but theater releases aren't really something I care about given the inaccessibility for me. The north west is a real dry spot for cinema options unless the movie is a major shonen franchise release or you live in one of the few major towns/cities here. I am glad at least that the Mamoru Hosoda releases are getting home video releases too. I'll admit I'll need to familiarise myself with their work a bit first though.

Also, a personal request here, but AL really needs to lean into cheaper soundtrack options more often. The vinyl soundtracks they release are great but I can't afford to spend £80+ on LP boxes that take up as much room as they do so often. I wish they would do adjacent CD releases far more often. They're just so much easier on the wallet and my quickly shrinking storage capacity.
