UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Anime Limited revealed their Eminence in Shadow CE today and I'm passing on it, as much as I would have wanted to own it in a CE format.

I have Sentai's release already because I bought it last year and back then there was zero news about a UK release, but I was hoping to double dip on a nice set and the end result is fine, but not enough to consider a purchase at this point. Given that the series is 2-cours (i.e. 20 episodes), its a higher price so I expected that, but now that you have to pay for postage you're looking at either paying £53.49 or £48.49 if you have Anime Unlimited. Free shipping is £50 onwards for the item price I believe so it just misses the window.

The booklet looks decent but the artwork of the box could have been better. If Crunchyroll had the license they would have given it the Shield Hero treatment I reckon. The CE itself is good for those who didn't import the US release, but I think in this day and age, a series like this which was already popular/had a pretty decent following to begin with, should have been licensed and released much sooner.

Yeah I think around this time last year they revealed their 12 Day plans and titles for those days - haven’t seen anything so far.

AL have become generally quieter about announcing things in advance over the last year, so I wonder if we'll get advance notice of the 12 Days plans at all. For that matter, I wonder if they're even doing a bunch of early bird announcements during the sale this year.
Why is Eminem in the shadows?
Because he's Shady.

This year I have only ordered two releases from AL (Granbelm and Yohane the Parhelion, latter I ordered for sake of completeness cause I have collected all the Love Live anime so far, Yohane anime started out promising but it ended up being meh) and there was several months gap between those. It would have been three releases but I ended up cancelling my pre-order for Arcane and thank God I did so cause season two of Arcane was a rushed disappointing mess.

I wish AL's Christmas Showcase would have something for me this year, but last year they had absolutely nothing for me and therefore I skipped their Christmas Sale completely and I fear this year they won't have anything for me either. I hope AL proves me wrong but I have feeling this year will be a repeat of last year.

So then, not that much of an anime fan, I'm guessing? ;) I'm in the US and have bought almost 100 US anime Blu-rays this year so far, the majority of them pre-orders - but even so, I was still able to find 11 UK Collector's Edition sets I needed to import this year. I'm also looking at 4 or 5 more UK CE sets to pick up during the Holiday Sales. I just wish AL would release more CE sets with digipaks rather than blu cases - and keep the totally unnecessary spine logos off of the outside artwork on those digipaks.

All depends on the companies catalogue.
In the last two years, I've hardly bought anything from All the Anime, including sales. I'll not be surprised to buy nothing in the sales.

I'm not continuing with Re Zero, no interest in Attack on Titan. That's just 2.
Imported The Eminence in Shadow and won't be buying twice.

HMV have been getting my money and I've been more careful with my buys as I have added too much to my started and won't finish pile.

Well, generally I only import Collector's or Ultimate Editions from the UK, specifically for the specialty packaging, as I can always buy the Standard release versions locally here in the US - we get very few specialty releases over here in the US, except a Crunchyroll Limited Edition set here and there, and random Premium sets from Sentai which I would never spend the ridiculously high prices for. In the UK, MVM releases very few Collector's Editions, so the CE sets I import are almost all from AL. The only Standard releases I buy from the UK are for those very few series that don't get any release in the US - and those I can count on one hand.
