UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

TBH its sadder you would spend almost twice the price just because you don't like art you haven't seen yet. The Korean set doesn't even look that good and at the end of the day the contents are surly more important.

Twice the Price? The pre-order for the Korean set is not even up, so your "twice the price" mean nothing right now, maybe it will be cheaper than the CE from @anime so please don't make asomptions.
There not so much Key-arts for this movie, so even if I indeed didn't see the box yet, I already have seen all the Key-art aveilable, and no one is as good as the art from the Jp/korean set.
You don't like it? your opinion.
The content is important indeed, but heh, as far as I can see, the Korean set have every video bonus too, I'am even sure that every others distributors in the world will have the same video bonus (maybe even more, the ambient track who is missing on @anime release).
The only nice candy is the translated booklet.

Blog post detailing the different releases for Your Name, I really like the key art they went with for the standard release.

I'm disappointed, majorly. Locking the English dub with Japanese songs behind our memories of seeing it in the cinema is not, in my eyes, acceptable. That assumes I'm able to see it on Wednesday in such a manner, as last time I tried to watch the dub, they screened the sub.

Actually, @anime_andrew, perhaps I'm being unreasonable; please, just add the Your Name English dub with Japanese songs to OurScreen, and I'll just pay the £222 to watch it in the cinema next time I want to watch it.

Honestly no longer able to tell how much of @Jaysgba 's Your Name fever is genuine and how much is self-parody any more.

Thanks for the blog post, guys! Expectations can now be set.

R
I would seriously pay the ~£220 for a private screening if that's made available as the only way to watch it in English dub but with Japanese songs.

Hint: If it's about theatrical anime in general, it may be self-parody. If it's about a specific film, chances are good I just really love the film.

We're sharing with Madman so I've asked the question re English dub with JP songs so we'll see if that is viable at this stage and update folks on that frontier. We've worked hard on the booklet and other materials while they have toiled hard on that so to an extent we have to trust them on it (it's a feature I always wanted though but you have to accept a degree of loss of control when you share projects). I'll see what comes out there :).

It's something we are of course willing to revisit over time come the almost inevitable 4K release in years to come too though.

So watch this space, we're going with the conservative scenario based on original plans to be safe though so will update if it changes of course :).

Best,

AP

Worth pointing out for the Collector's Steelbook that was £19.99 on Amazon, all that text is on a taco that is removable says the voice of temptation...

Will take feedback on board as always though too, no guarantees I can do anything though so don't hold breaths :).

Re price - In terms of price, keep in mimd we're still not at the stage of doing an early bird yet as well :). So I'd be surprised if we were anything more than at parity come that point and potentially a good bit less

Re keyarts - Well you can always buy our standard edition and swap it in and get the best of both worlds too :)! Nobody is holding a gun to your head to buy our fancier one, I'm very happy with it though here :).

Re content - If you can read Korean or understand Japanese that's certainly an option, esp if the English dub isn't a thing you're after. That said ours will be the first release worldwide to have the translated extras as well as the first mainstream way to access the dub too (planning a screening during SLA too of the dub as we're really happy with it). Like I say above, you can totally go for the standard edition though if you fancy, I can see the disc art looks the same as the Korean one anyway :).

All the best anyway and thanks for supporting a great film, wherever you buy it :)!

Best,

Andrew

You know that's ambiguous. SDH for the English dub or the Japanese track?

It was created for the Japanese theatrical from us, but as the dub is pretty faithful should also work if switched on for the dub. But I'll take a look at the QC disc and let folks know when I'm back from Japan (on my way there now).

In term of prices, unfortunatly your "early bird" have no positives effects on the price for oversea customers (Like me in Belgium for example) because the shipping cost is insane.
No advantage on that point (exept for UK customers).

For the standard ed : yep, I might well pick-it up down the line, it will depend on the price, since I only need the disc.

After War Gundam X is now getting a Blu-ray Box release in Japan, that's the last major title left DVD only that can be released for the UK now.

Assuming AL can get there.

As we have people from the industry here, I was wondering, who's smart idea is it to put review ratings and/or review quotes on the cover? Is it the company releasing the film, the licensor or some other genius.

I pretty sure no one buying wants them there yet you see so many releases with them on. What's worse, there are release with them on the cover and on the slip cover.(Redline for example)

There exist people who see a thing in a shop or a picture online and don't want to hunt around for reviews for it to know if it's good. Whereas I'm not sure if there are people who exist where upon seeing writing and stars on a cover, refuse to buy the film.

Everywhere I look the steelbook is £24.99 now, too much for me to blind buy, especially a movie. Even if it was £19.99 on amazon I'd have to spend a bit more to get free delivery as I'm one of the low class scum (in Amazon's eyes) that don't waste their money on prime.

£15 is good for the standard edition though. I might get it but only if you make the stars a nice shiny gold :p

Fair point. Impulse buyers, the amount of money they must waste. See a movie cover with stars and/or quotes from a well know magazine, news paper or website saying how great something is only for it to turn out pants.

The companys could at least give us an option to get rid of them. Reversable cover or a sticker on the wrapping that has the stars and/or quotes on.
